Win-It Wednesday: Violet by Design

So last week I asked about titles, and found out about some great ones from you guys… I am especially excited about How to Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier. That has to be high on the Best Title Ever list. And the winner of Skin by Adrienne Maria Vrettos is… Steph! Send me your address, S, and the book will wing its way to you!
cgviolet.jpg Now, this week I’m cheating slightly because I haven’t finished reading the book I want to gift you next (re-gift, I guess–sorry!) but there is a contest running in the June/July issue of COSMOgirl! that goes on until June 30th and I’m telling you about it here. See that little text at the bottom of the page shown here? It tells you how to enter to win a copy of Violet by Design. So… click on the picture to zoom in… and go for it! (Bonus: Find your signature style at the same time.)
And, as I always love, love, love all the comments during contest time, I also will give away a copy of Violet by Design (signed) to one commenter here. My question is: What sidekick character from a book should have a spin-off novel about them? I want to hear which best friend or boyfriend or parent or rival or lurking stranger you’d want to hear more from, for whatever reason.
My answer: I think I’d like to hear Owen’s back story from Sarah Dessen’s Just Listen. He fascinated me.
Winner chosen next Wednesday! And don’t forget to enter this Shooting Stars magazine contest by Friday to win a marked-up copy of Violet on the Runway.

Does it have to be from a book? I think I’d like a spin-off movie about Duckie from Pretty in Pink. I would totally have chose Duckie over Blane.
If it has to be a book, I would probably choose Jas from the Georgia Nicholson series. I’d like to see things from her perspective.

  2. Marjolein says:

hmm this is a good one!
i think it has to be Lilly Moscowitz or Tina Hakim Baba from the Princess Diaries

  3. Cat says:

How to Ditch your Fairy has been on my wishlist since a friend told me about it. She knows to send me ANYTHING faerie and this one certainly applies!
Unfortunately (or, fortunately for me) the Side-kick character that I love to pieces already has a spin-off book about her – Polgara the Sorceress from the Belgariad series by David Eddings. When I grow up I’m going to be Polgara myself. :) I think that book is one of my Top 3. I have read it at least 10 times.

  4. Alea says:

I’m reading New Moon right now so I’m going to have to say any of the Cullens. But if I had to pick just one, Alice, since she has some mystery in her past. (Unless that’s covered in Eclipse or Breaking Dawn, this I don’t know!) I just find them all so fascinating, I mean how could any of their stories be dull having such lengthy lives!
PS I got a triple lookalike up on my blog, two are the same picture and the third is from what looks like the same photo shoot!

  5. Marcus Flutie from Megan McCafferty’s Jessica Darling series. :) Or Veronica from your series.. I’d love to hear all the dirt. Great question. Have a great week, Melissa! :)

  6. Lenore says:

When I read Ann Patchett’s The Patron Saint of Liars, I didn’t much like the book itself, but I really, really liked the minor character Sister Evangeline, a nun who can tell the future of babies by touching them. I would love to read a whole book about her.

  7. Josie says:

I totally LOVED This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen, and I think that Jess (Remy’s long-time best friend) should get a spin-off book about herself. I loved her dry sense of humor, the way she protected her friends, and the fact that you could tell how soft of a person she was (in a good, loving way) even though she put up a front. :)

  8. Megan says:

Hi Melissa! I already have a copy of Violet by Design (courtesy of Cysations! Gotta love them :]) So I just wanted to tell you that as soon as I can find Violet on the Runway at a bookstore near me (which has been next to impossible. It’s usually there when I have no money to spend or something. lol), I’ll read them both and review them on my blog :] I’ll send you a link when I do :]

  9. Ink says:

I have the same problem as Megan above me with Violet on the Runway. I ALWAYS find it when I’m money-less. Anyway, Woot about my title recommendation getting first-page treatment! Now to my spin-off book. Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series is amazing, and I’d love to get the entire back story on Amelie, because she’s such a deep character!

  10. Katie says:

Ok this was hard but i would love to hear the other side of the prety little liars series told by ali she seemed so distint in the books
    Luv ya
    Katie

  12. JoeKinski says:

It would definitely have to be Effie Perrine from The Maltese Falcon. She knows Spade’s secrets. She knows Archer’s secrets. Heck, she knows Mrs. Archer’s secrets. Spade trusts her to do his dirty work. Why? What makes Ms. Perrine tick?

  13. Liviania says:

I would love a spin-off for Debbie from the Darren Shan books. He’s her first boyfriend, then she meets him again and discovers vampires exist . . . I would love to see her POV on the situation and what she does when their lives don’t intersect.

  14. Hillary says:

I recently finished The Host by Stephenie Meyer (which was awesome!) and I would like to hear about Jared’s experiences from the first memory that Melanie has to the end of the book. That’d e very interesting.

  15. hmm, tough. there’s so many books to choose from. i’ll have to go with Clary’s mother (i temporarily forgot her name) from the Mortal Instruments series. i know they give some info, but a story from her perspective would be cool.
or Alice from Twilight. i love her. she’s awesome :D

  16. thekbseriesauthor says:

Cabel from Lisa McMann’s WAKE. He is so hot!!! His personality and character really captivated me. I could really use some more Cabel in my life. I can hardly wait for FADE!!! Cabel is like a drug. You NEED him! hehe. Well, at least, Janie does. It would be really interesting to read a different story with him in it. I wonder what he could be like….
    Read WAKE!! So amazing!

  17. Bee says:

Well,in the Attolia series, I’d love to see more about Eddis!

  18. khyrinthia says:

I think a story all about Rogerson from Dreamland would be awesome.
Or I’d like a more of a story about Verity in the Dreamhunter duo. She interested me quite a bit.

  19. Hm, this was hard. I had to think a lot about it. But I think it would be cool to hear Ann’s POV from the Gemma Doyle trilogy. She’s so meek and mild, and yet I think there’s a bit more to her than you ever really see when reading from Gemma’s POV.

  20. Regina says:

Hmm this tough. :/ Uhh Noelle in the Private series. She’s a very mysterious person. Kate Brian is writing a brand new series for one of her characters in the Private series. So that’s cool.
By the way Melissa, I recommend your book to the library here (2 months ago) and today I got a email to inform me that an order had been placed for the title. =) Yay!!!
Have you read New Moon or Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer? You’ll love them!

  21. thekbseriesauthor says:

khyrinthia, yes yes yes! i agree! i would love to learn more about Rogerson from Dreamland by Sarah Dessen too!!! Yes yes yes!!! That was an intense and dramatic story but oh so good. That would be cool!

  22. Amy says:

Just finished Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief. I’d also like to see the story from
Annabeth’s pov. She has a pretty good story, I think.

  23. bunny says:

Well, I would’ve like to have a spin-off on Chelsea from Earthly Pleasures by Karen Neches :)
    xx

  24. eimear (: says:

i would love to see a spin-off novel for Mr.Porter a charachter from the book “13 reasons why” by Jay Asher which is about a girl who commits suicide and leaves tapes that have to be posted from person to person saying why.
Also, i’d love to see a spin off novel for the “friend” that the narrator in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” which is one of the best books i’ve ever read..
Every chapter is aletter addressed as “Dear Friend” but we never learn who the friend actually is or anything about them!

  25. Kelly Wynne says:

I have this CG magazine sitting with a bunch of other magazines and I haven’t read it yet. =P Thanks for pointing it out!
Anyway, I am excited to read Midnight Sun when it does come out. I read the first chapter on Stephenie Meyer’s website and it was amazing.
Midnight Sun is basically going to be another Twilight, except from Edward’s perspective. That should be a great read. =)

  26. Holly says:

I would love to hear Shari’s (of Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot) story.

  27. Liv says:

That’s such a cool question! I think that I’d like to know more about Ian in the Host because we don’t really get any info on his background and he’s pretty much the greatest character ever.

  28. avni says:

I would love to hear Melissa (from the pretty little liars books, Shay (from the uglies books), Dex (fro breathe my name) and Cabel (from wake). They’re all such interesting characters and it would be amazing to know what they think.

  29. Grace says:

I would love to hear from Char in Gail Carson Levine’s Ella Enchanted.

  30. Kelsey says:

Great Idea, I’d think for a spin-off it’d be for Dominic in The Seer Series by Linda Joy Singleton, his past is so mysterious and interesting. Or like someone said above, Marcus Flutie in the Jessica Darling Series by Megan McCafferty.

  31. Nicole says:

Roiben from Tithe by Holly Black. He’s like this sexy, hot stud. Who’s only partly in the book but I want to hear more of how he was when he was younger and all that. And to describe him all over again. He’s hot.

Okay I don’t see my comment anywhere but I could have sworn I entered… oh well, I’m commenting again just to be sure.
If I already commented, just disregard this comment :D
Anyways, I’d want to read the side story of Cameron from Sweethearts. He was just so interesting and he’s got a whole untold story, just waiting to come out…

  34. Stephanie W says:

Weird, I know, but I wish that there was more about Simon from Lord of the Flies. We just finished reading that in english (the last book I ever will read in high school english!) and we examined his character without any concrete details. It was interesting. =)

  35. Aella says:

Hmmm…. I’ve sort of wondered about Hassan from An Abudance of Katherines. He was completely hilarious and I always question what was going on in his life while Colin moped about all 19 Katherines.
Or, perhaps, Foley from the Artemis Fowl series. He just went along on his centaur-y way and saved everyone’s posteriors at least a million times from the background. It’d be really intense to hear about his past more.

  36. Kristi says:

I’d love a spin off of Pride and Prejudice with the POV of Mr. Darcy.
Too bad it will never happen!

  37. Olivia says:

I’ve also wondered about Hassan from An Abundance of Katherines. He was just so entertaining, so maybe his background would be as well
