LovestruckSummer2.jpg Last week’s winner of Tyrell by Coe Booth (and Kendra, courtesy of the author herself!) is… Laura! Send me your address, L. One book will come from me, another from Coe, both signed. This is an awesome prize duo. I’m a little jealous, to be honest, because I haven’t read Kendra yet!
This week, I’m ecstatic to be able to give away one of the very first copies of my May 5th release, Lovestruck Summer. I just got two early copies in the mail–they are cute and colorful and totally fun! So excited.
To enter, I’ll give you an easy task: Tell me the best romance book you’ve read in the past year. Teen romance, bodice-ripping romance, vampire romance (ahem)… whatever you loved.
A random commenter will win one of my two precious early(ish) copies of Lovestruck Summer by moi, signed of course.
Happy Wednesday!
PS-If you’re a reviewer, I can try to get some early copies of Lovestruck Summer sent out in the next week from Harper… so email me with your address and a link to your blog and I’ll pass everyone on to my publicist. I can’t promise anything, but I’ll do my best!

Okay, the best romance I’ve read in the last year, hmmm. That would have to be the Twilight series as I haven’t really read any romance since then.

Not sure if this qualifies but my 14 and 16 year old daughters are nuts about Kate Brian’s PRIVATE series. They have me scouring the planet for the installments they haven’t yet read.
And, they’re all caught up on your stuff. :-)
    Keep ‘em coming, kiddo.

  5. Amee says:

Hmm…Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols is probably the best YA romance I have read here recently.

You are going to completely ruin my image with this question, but in the interest of full disclosure: City Dog by Alison Pace. Romance and a small, spunky dog who stars in her own series of kids books!
Don’t tell the guys, all right?

  9. Katie says:

    The Season by Sarah MacLean!

  11. Ashley says:

I loved the ‘Let It Snow’ book by Johnson, Green, & Myracle. I also really enjoyed ‘Carpe Diem’ by Autumn Cornwell… I guess that one isn’t primarily a romance, but is does have that aspect to it. =)

Anatomy of a Boyfriend by Daria Snadowsky and I am so excited for you and your new book! :)

  13. Mya says:

Yay for Lovestruck Summer! Can’t wait! Congratulations, Melissa!
Oh man… best romance book I’ve read in the last year… that’s a toughie ’cause I’ve read a lot of fantastic ones. The one that jumps to mind is “Blue-Eyed Devil” by Lisa Kleypas. One of my favorite heroes of the romance genre, plus I dare you not to cry or at least feel a deep gut-wrenching pain during the first half. It’s actually a sequel to “Sugar Daddy”, which I didn’t know when I read it, but that provides some sort of background to the amazing-ness that is Hardy Cates.
Close second: “Dream a Little Dream” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (truly the queen of romance, in my opinion!!)

  14. Cindy says:

I’m excited about your new book! Can’t wait to get my hands on it :)
    Hmm, romance?
It’s gotta be a tie between:
    Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer
    Faking it by Jennifer Crusie

  15. Jacqueline says:

Looking at the books I read last year, I think I preferred genre books with a dash of romance to straight up romance novels so I guess that makes it easier for me to choose.
Lynsay Sands’ Single White Vampire(Argeneau #3). I laughed myself silly reading that one.
Tyne O’Connell’s The Calypso Chronicles…well, one of the first three in the series that I read, at least (Pulling Princes, Stealing Princes, Dueling Princes). They were fun.

  16. Ann says:

Hm, I think my all time favorite romance that I read last year was probably the Twilight series. I don’t think anything could top it.

  17. nm says:

Just one? Way too hard to choose, but I’ll go with Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  18. pepsivanilla says:

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen :)
Because I totally read it at least once a year!

  19. Adele says:

I agree with Amee – totally Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols – I firmly believe that others would be saying this too had they read it.

  20. Kaitlin says:

    Best Romance I’ve read recently:
    The Luxe Series:
I just finished Rumors, the second novel in Anna Godbersten’s The Luxe Series. Formulaic in a Gossip Girl way (think: a loved blonde, a feared brunette, Manhattan circa 1899, forbidden romances, lavish balls, chapters opening with gossip mag clippings, etc) these novels grab and keep your attention. You find yourself yearning for a forbidden romance that compels you to flee the cushy life you’ve always known in the name of true love!

  21. Diana Dang says:

I’ve got to say The Luxe. =)
I really want to read Lovestruck Summer but I am flooded with books already. Haha, and I’m sure your inbox is jammed with review requests so I’m not gonna clog it even further. x)

  22. Nikki says:

Going too Far. So amazing. Sexy without being overdone. I might have even taken a second glance at a cop or two, but with a background similar to Meg’s I might have to give up that dream.

  23. deltay says:

Oh. wow. Hmm, I don’t know if I’ve read any romance in the past year – I mean, i’ve read YA books with romantic elements…
I guess recently, Evermore was really good. The Hunger Games (which had a romantic triangle running as a minor element) was awesome!
I’m just curious, does Harper ship outside of the States?

  24. Nora says:

I’m going to go with Going Too Far as well. Totally surpassed my expectations!

  25. Ink says:

I don’t normally read romance novels, but Rachel Caine’s Morgaville Vampires series latest book Lord of Misrule has some romance. I really want to win this one! Much better than Twilight.

  26. Mrs. V says:

My favorite YA romance books that I have read this year were Simone Ekeles’ Perfect Chemistry and How to Ruin a Summer Vacation . I just read Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress last night and it was a fun romance too. I blogged about them here:
I would love to read your new book. I am behind with your Violet books but I bought the first and my mom got me the other two for my birthday. I was hooked with the first and will be reading the rest soon!

  27. mari says:

I am so excited to read this book since it is set in Austin! Love that.
You know, I haven’t read a good romance in a very long time. However, I did love the chemistry between Demetri and Rose in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. :)

  28. Kristi says:

This year? I really like Simple Wishes by L.Dale or An Offer You Can’t Refuse by Jill Mansell.
Would love to win a copy of this one.

  29. Cyndi says:

Best romance this year? Wow that’s a hard one. I would have to say The Host by Stephanie Meyer. It’s kind of an alien/human romance/adventure, but it’s totally adorable and I just love it.
Congrats on your new book! Yay! :D

  30. Donna S says:

I know its the popular answer but I have to say the Twilight series.

  31. Just sent you an email – we can’t wait to read Lovestruck Summer here in Austin!

  32. Lesley says:

Ooooo … I so wanted Dee and Luke from LAMENT by Maggie Stiefvater to get together …

  34. Lesley says:

Oooooo … I so wanted Dee and Luke from Maggie Stiefvater’s Lament to get together …

  35. Lesley says:

OMG!! Sorry for the multiple entry! My lappie was giving me problems! *Slinks away, embarrased*

  36. Amber says:

    Congrats on the book!!
I’m going to mention two books that I’ve read this year that I adore: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkles and Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols. These two are must reads!
But my all time favorite love story will always be This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen. *sighs* I want a clumsy musician!

  37. Meredith F. says:

I just finished Suite Dreams by Rachel Hawthorne. It was so cute and I loved it!

    OOH, CANNOT WAIT!! :-)
I just finished Too Good To Be True by Kristan Higgins and loved it! Smart, funny, and so much fun to read!

  39. This is tough. I’d say Geek Magnet by Kieran Scott!

  40. Samantha says:

The best romance book I’ve read in the past year would definitely have to be ‘The Sunflower’ I can’t remember the author offhand, but it’s a great book set in South America with American Tourists. SO SO good. It’s not a cheesy romance either. It’s great stuff.

  41. Rylie says:

Best romance book in the past year would probably be Graceling by Kristin Cashore.

  42. Em says:

Yay, your new book! I’m so dying to read it. :)
I read Ransom My Heart by Meg Cabot earlier this year. I just love her style of writing, so funny and well-written.
But one of my favorite romances is Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife. It’s all about what happens after Elizabeth marries Mr. Darcy. The writing sounds so much like Jane Austen but it’s definitely way too racy to have ever been published in Austen’s time. :) I recommend it if you’re a fan of Elizabeth & Darcy.

  43. Alexa says:

Graceling by Kristin Cashore and Something, Maybe but Elizabeth Scott. The romance in that is just so adorable.
Sorry I can never pick just one :)

  44. Mona says:

hmmm the best romance book that i’ve read would have to be Something Borrowed. Awesome!

  45. em.ily says:

ooh tough one. probably the pearl by john steinbeck, even though the romance isn’t prominent, i found it fascinating.
    thanks for letting me enter~~

  46. Andrea Mason says:

I loved I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder!

  47. Thao says:

Woohoo Lovestruck summer is here already! Congrats Melissa : )
Best romance I read last year? Definitely Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise. She wrote best chick lits ever.

  48. Ellie says:

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. It’s one of my favorite books.
The great thing about Sarah Dessen is that her books, even the romances, aren’t solely about the relationship. They’re about being yourself. About learning to let go of the past(but not to forget). About letting people in, but keeping them out if needed.
    Anyway, thanks for the contest!

  49. Megan says:

Oh man, I’m trying really hard to remember romances I’ve read this year, but I can’t think of any straight-up romances…though I did like the (kind of sad ending) romance in Sweethearts by Sara Zarr.

  50. Danni says:

ohhhhhh god…. lets see…. Kate Brian’s Fake Boyfriend was so cute, it had just the right amount of everything! it really was a good read.

  51. Max Brown says:

Hmm. One of my more recent favorites is City of Glass by Cassandra Clare. The first two books, too. It’s not exactly bodice-ripping romance – it’s more subtle and not exactly the point the plot revolves around – but I really liked how it was done. I LOVE Jace, and I like the dynamic between him and Clary.

  52. One of the best is “Dancing in red shoes will kill you” by Dorian Cirrone. This book is amazing the storyline is very good it has lots of mystery and romance. I suggest everyone to read this just once. I also love it because the main charecter is so relatable. It’s just one great book.

  56. Anna C. says:

Well… I don’t read much straight romance but I think that The Juliet Club by Suzanne Harper qualifies here. It’s adorable.

  57. I devoured ‘Perfect You’ by Elizabeth Scott!!! It was a quick and wonderful read!

  58. Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress by Tina Ferraro.
I fell in love with Jared from the very beginning (I still love Roger too though!)

  59. VioletReads says:

I just read Jane Eyre, so I’m very proud of my classical romance reading, but my favorite romance is Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters and my favorite YA romance is Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan (so sweet! yay!). BTW, I think its pretty awesome that you’re giving away precious copies to fans!

    cabot’s “the guy next door”

  61. Jessica says:

Please count me in! I really loved the romance in Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (not just because my name is Jessica…)

  62. Genevieve says:

Best romance, huh? Well… lets see. I would have to say that Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot was the best romance book that I’ve read in the past year. It was the 3rd and final book the that series and it was SO good!

  63. Angie says:

I read 20 Boy Summer a couple of weeks ago, and that rocked! The story was really touching.
