Last week’s trifecta of books goes to… Anna! (She was comment #65, leaving a post about Free Book Friday). Send me your address, A! The random number generating gods have smiled on you. If you didn’t win, there are a TON of contest links in the comments on last week’s post… so go enter like crazy!
impulse_cover-143x203.jpg This week I’m giving away a copy of IMPULSE by Ellen Hopkins. It happens to be the April readergirlz pick, so if you win you’ll have to speed read and then join in our book talk! This book just floored me. It’s the story of three teenagers who meet each other in a psych hospital after separate suicide attempts. I fell in love with Vanessa, Connor and Tony, and the bond that forms between them–it’s amazingly touching how close they get, even after so much trust has been broken in their lives. IMPULSE is written in verse, which makes it’s dark subjects easier to handle, somehow.
Anyway, you guys probably know Ellen Hopkins’ work–I’m so behind! But I’ll be picking up the rest of her books now.
To win, just leave a comment below and tell me about a book character you’d like to have as a best friend. For me, I think I’m in the mood to hang out with Gilda Joyce, a psychic investigator I just adore! Yeah, I read Middle Grade stuff sometimes too. These are the perfect little-sister books.
Happy Wednesday!

I would love to have Jacob from the Twilight series as a best friend. I tend to get along with guys far better than women for some reason.

    Thanks for the opportunity! Indigo

Probably Harriet from Harriet the Spy because I needed (and still need) someone edgy to make sure life doesn’t get too boring.

Well, no need to enter me, anyway, Melissa. I’m just dropping in to let you know I’ve got this posted at Win a Book. Hopefully you’ll get some new friends at the discussion site, too.

  10. Lanna says:

There are so many answers I have for that question, but based on the mood I’m in right now, I think it’d be awesome to have Skulduggery Pleasant from the Skullduggery Pleasant books by Derek Landy as a best friend, it’d be… interesting (he is a private investigator. Who is hundreds of years old and can use magic… oh and he’s a walking, talking, skeleton. Yeeah). :]

  11. Fate Fortuna says:

Skulduggery Pleasant would be a great best friend! As a second choice, reaching back to my childhood… Jeremy Thatcher from Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville. He’d understand my obsession with dragons!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  12. Kristi says:

I also wouldn’t mind being friends with Hermione Granger or Harry for that matter. How cool would it be to have a friend who was a wizard?

I would love to have Elinor from Sense and Sensibility for a friend :-)

  14. Vanessa says:

I want to be friends with Stephenie Plum. Sure, my car would get trashed, but it would make life tres entertaining!

  15. I would ALMOST say Georgia Nicolson, but Jas has to put up with so much of her crap – Georgia has no idea what a good friend Jas really is! So I’m going to go with Shiraz Bailey Wood from the Diary of a Chav series. She rocks!
And I totally agree with you re: Ellen Hopkins’ verse. The poetry does sort of soften the blow. BUT, if you ever read Identical, whoa, that one really hits you over the head. But mostly in a good way.

  16. Mona says:

i think that i would like for Rachel from “Something Borrowed” (by the way an awesome book)” or Diana “Luxe Novels” to be my best friend.

  17. JenP says:

I agree– without a doubt, Anne of Green Gables.

  18. Sarah says:

Two people already mentioned Anne, who would be my top choice-love her!
I just read Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev and Bertie was a pretty awesome character. I think she’d make a good best friend and she could show me around the theater which would be pretty cool.
I haven’t read this one by Ellen Hopkins yet, but I’ve liked everything else I’ve read by her-Burned is my favorite so far.

  19. Ooh, that’s an awesome question!
But also hard. Hmm…I think I’ll have to pick: Mia Thermopolis because I think it would be pretty awesome to be her BFF, but if I was smart I would pick like Owen Armstong. Haha :)

  20. Ann says:

I’d probably want Laura from A Hopeless Romantic!

  21. Lis says:

a book character I’d like as a best friend would be Gale from The Hunger Games :D and Stargirl from Stargirl because she’s just so darn cool

  22. Jamie says:

Even though she’s much older than me, I’d love to have Stephanie Plum as a best friend, because she’d always bring excitement to my life, somehow. XD
But since someone already mentioned her, I’m going to go with Bridget from the Jessica Darling series. Sure Bridget isn’t the brightest girl around, but she’s sweet and caring and a very awesome friend. (:
    Awesome contest!

  23. Shalonda says:

I’m going with Claudia from The Babysitters Club series. She was just so funky, fashionable, and fun! What’s not to love about her?

  24. Diana Dang says:

I would love to be friends with Cyril MacIntyre from Quid Pro Quo or Anna from The Makedown. Both hilarious characters in their great comedy story!

  25. Tiffany says:

I’d actually like to have Alice from the Twilight books as a best friend. Yeah, she’s a vampire, but she’s a really nice one. Please enter me for the giveaway. Thanks!

  26. Valorie says:

Marius from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. We could talk about history and art ALL night long.

  27. Erika Lynn says:

Kinsey Millhone from Sue Grafton’s alphabet series. She is one seriously awesome lady.

  28. Jacqueline says:

Oh gee…just one, huh? Um…okay…Mercy from Patricia Briggs’ Mercedes Thompson series.

  29. Shari says:

I’m surprised by who came to mind first for me: Gloria Dump, from Because Of Winn-Dixie. Quirky, wise, imperfect, and loving (which, now that I think about it, are pretty cool BFF characteristics — even the “imperfect” part). :)

This one’s a little random, but I’d say Dan from Little Men. Seems like the kind of boy who would grow up to be a pretty great friend.

  32. YAY for ELLEN! Woohoo!

  33. Jenna says:

Q and the gang from ‘PAPER TOWNS’ by John Green. They are the funniest group of teenagers. I know taking a road trip with them would be awesome!

  42. Pam says:

Mo Folchart from Inkheart. I would love to have the characters of my favorite books brought to life by his silver tongue.

  43. Amelia says:

It’s a hard choice, and at first I was thinking either Dorothy or Ozma, but I would love to be best friends with Scarecrow from the Oz series! Great contest!

  44. M. Rooney says:

I often wish Jo March (Little Women) were my best friend. Somehow I think we’d get along great. Besides, everyone should have a writing partner!!!

I’m pretty sure that, if Jo March (Little Women) were a real person, we’d be best friends!

Hey there! I’d love to have Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead as my best friend. Why? So she can teach me some kick ass self defense moves. I probably won’t be her best best friend (Lissa Dragomir is) but it’d still be fun!
