The winner of last week’s giveaway of Alive and Well in Prague, New York by Daphne Grab is… Chelley! Send me your address, C.
miles.jpgThis week, I’m giving away a copy of Miles from Ordinary by Carol Lynch Williams. I read this book in two days, and I was seriously nervous the whole time. It definitely keeps you worrying and guessing, and I love emotional involvement.
So, to enter to win a copy of this book, tell me the last time you felt really scared by a book or a movie or whatever. For me, it was with this book!
Good luck–I’ll choose a random winner next week.

Man, I wish I could think of a time that I was scared by a book, but it’s been so long that I can’t even recall. The last movie that totally had me freaked out was The Hills Have Eyes, freakalicious!!!!!!!!

I’m so easy to scare, it’s ridiculous. When I was at the theatres, waiting to see Inception, and a three minute trailer of The Last Exorcism played, I ended up having a nightmare. In which my best friend tried to eat me, I had to run into a crypt (at night, naturally), and then I got into this hollow altar-coffin thing with a skeleton, and it grinned at me. And then my best friend found me anyway, and when she killed me, I woke up.
You have to wonder what this says about my best friend. My mind is a scary thing. (I’m very careful to avoid horror movies and stuff, since I usually get bad nightmares and I end up not being able to go to the bathroom on my own for like two weeks.)

Definitely Sparrow Rock by Nate Kenyon. More creepy than scary, but the ending really got to me. Recommend as a great read; I’ll be looking into the author soon for more supernatural, psychological thrillers.

Hm…rewatched The Ring the other day and it still freaks me out :)

Oh, I don’t do scary movies. Too intense. Even Castle makes me nervous sometimes. But the last really nerve-wracking book I read was Sarah Waters’ The Little Stranger: post-war English gothic haunted house make-you-go-crazy lovesick melodrama. I literally (I mean that) whizzed through the final pages because my heart was racing so much, I had to just end it!
(Although … I am currently reading Andre Agassi’s autobiography, and frankly, his father really scares me. Does that count?)

WEll, it happened two days ago, when i watched Paranormal Activity 2 :)

The last thing that had me genuinely creeped out was the movie Paranormal Activity. So scary!

I watched Black Swan in December and was pretty much terrified and on edge for two days afterwards. Amazing movie, though.

  9. I get scared every time I watch the Season 2 finale of Greys Anatomy (when Izzie cute Denny’s LVAD wire), even though I’ve seen the episode four times and know what’s going to happen, I pretty much look away each time!

  10. Sheena says:

I get easily scared and still have to keep a night light on for me to go to sleep. I’m 19 and it’s ridiculous, I know. But I’m still scared of all of the horror movie previews that randomly air on commercials or the theater.

  11. Last time I was scared by a book was just yesterday. I started reading Fall Out by Gudrun Pausewang. It’s about nuclear reactor failure and has this rather apocalytic feel to it. Really scary because it’s such a realistic danger.
Carol Lynch Williams is a great author. I loved her book The Chosen One.

They were just showing Stephen King’s The Shining on TV the other day. I tuned in while it was already in the middle and it scared the pants out of me!!!

Sometimes I get scared when watching tv. I also get kind of scared when I’m home alone or at night time. Its not that is really bothers me being home alone or being night time but its just this fear that I have. I think its more I’m scared somebody is going to break in my house. Sometimes when I watch Supernatural on tv I get scared too. Some of the episodes are creepy.

I’ve been watching the UK Skins television show and I’ll be on the edge of my seat whispering in my head “please be okay please be okay…” The second-to-last episode of season one I was totally scared.

  15. Kelsey F says:

I think the last time I was scared by a book, in a disturbed sort of way, was Nothing by Janne Teller. I couldn’t even finish it I was so disturbed!

  16. Maryam says:

I was recently assigned to read Frankenstein at school. . . boy oh boy was that waaay out of what im used to reading! def scared me.

  17. Anna C. says:

Book: House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. — creeppyyy.
Movie: Sleepy Hollow is the only movie that I can honestly say made me a little jumpy. But then, maybe that’s cause I watched it alone in my room at like, 1am with all the lights off? haha
