Yes, it’s Thursday. Time isn’t my strong suit. I have other good qualities.

The winner of AS King’s Everybody Sees the Ants is… Dea! Send me your address, D. You will really enjoy this book.

This week, I’m giving away A Million Suns, the much-anticipated sequel to Across the Universe by Beth Revis. It comes out in January, but I have an ARC for one commenter below.

So, the task: I’m making a mix for some friends, and I’m trying to include a lot of great songs from 2011. So… what’s your favorite song or album or band from this year? Help me make the mix!

Oh, and for the record, I listen to everything–Top 40, country, hip hop, indie rock, show tunes. I guess the one thing I’m not into is House music.

Happy Thursday!

I have to choose two, Evanescence’s new album which goes by the band name. And Within Temptation’s The Unforgiving album. You can tell I’m a sucker for gothic metal.

On the pop front, I can’t get over Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and Katy Perry’s The One That Got Away.

    Looking forward to this :)

  2. Wendy says:

I would say “Niggas in Paris” off Jay-Z and Kanye West’s album Watch the Throne, with “Otis” a close second.

And “Rolling in the Deep,” most definitely.

  3. JenP says:

Hm…Adele has been my go-to this year.

  6. Colure says:

One of my favorites this year has definitely been “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles – I could listen to that song over and over AND as a bonus, the music video for it is pretty fab ;)

(although I must admit, a current favorite guilty-pleasure song is definitely “Domino” by Jessie J ^_~)

  7. Sarah says:

I really love Florence and the Machine’s new album, Ceremonials. But I have to say, I’ve fallen in love with the Gabe Dixon Band’s self-titled album. That is beautiful music!

  8. anncleire says:

I love Coldplay so my suggest is Paradise from Mylo Xyloto. Beautiful! *.*

  9. I would suggest Stronger by Kelly Clarkson – it’s very up beat and the lyrics are great. I’ve been listening to it all day…

  10. Tim says:

Since I don’t follow music much anymore and only listen to Opera and old punk numbers you are asking the wrong guy but I really want to win that ARC so I’m gonna say Still Alive off of Jonathan Coulton’s new album Artificial Heart. Let me know if it is any good. :)

  11. Edna says:

ADELE! I have also enjoyed Iwan Rheon.

  12. Krispy says:

Agree on Florence and the Machine’s new album, but right now I’m just really into the single Shake It Out. Also Coldplay’s Paradise.

I love these two Lady GaGa singles: Edge of Glory (it just lifts me up) and You & I.

Parachute’s new album The Way It Was – particularly the songs, Something to Believe In and Kiss Me Slowly.

Thanks for a chance at this ARC. Good luck with making the mix!

Well I love a lot of screamo band. My favorite right now is a band called Asking Alexandria but somehow I doubt you would like this type of music much less much it on your mix tape, I do have a song in mind though that I know you will love and that is WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD BY LOUIS ARMSTRONG who doesn’t love this song. This is an amazing song no matter what other people listen to :)

  18. Dani Nguyen says:

My top 3 albums of the year:

    Adele – 21
Florence and the Machine – Ceremonials
The Joy Formidable – The Big Roar

Those are really really REALLY good.

  28. Rachel M. says:

I know other people might laugh but two of the artists that I have on heavy rotation on my iPhone are Britney Spears and Adele. I love “I Wanna Go” and it makes me want to dance even though I have zero rhythm. Also, my new favorite it Adele’s “Someone Like You”.

  29. Justine says:

The country song “Fish” by Craig Campbell makes me giggle because it’s so sly!

  30. Lucile says:

I’ve liked a lot of pop-y songs this year like Selena Gomez’s Bang Bang Bang & the Victorious soundtrack. But I really love Under Streetlight Glow by Heidi Spencer And The Rare Birds – the song especially but also the album.

Thanks for this giveaway – I’m excited for this book’s release!

  31. Violet says:

Loving Florence + The Machine’s new album Ceremonials. I suppose my favorite would be Shake It Out or Seven Devils.
Of course, the Vitamin String Quartet is constantly releasing string versions of just about every song you could possibly think of(they also have a super cool website).

  32. I’m in love with Bruno Mars this year. His album Doo-Wops and the Hooligans. Run-away is my favorite :)

  33. Jenny says:

Anything and everything Glee (especially songs from this week’s episode)! I also love Adele, so I’d suggest trying less popular songs from her albums 21 and 19. Across the Universe was one of the best books of 2011! I am so excited for a Million Suns!

  34. Lindsey says:

Oh my gosh, I hope I win. I loved Across the Universe! The best new music I’ve heard this year has been from DJ Earworm and Foster the People. DJ Earworm does awesome mashup songs every year and his summer ones (Party on the Floor and The Only Time Is Tonight) were some of his best songs yet. Plus his 2011 mashup comes out this month. Yay! And Foster the People gained popularity really quickly with Pumped Up Kicks. I never really liked that one, but I’d Do Anything For You is such a great song. I love the intro!

    -Lindsey
