Tara Altebrando writes great books. This one? So excellent! I found myself folding pages down to remember certain passages (so, um, the copy you win may be a little dog-eared, as I’m giving away the one I read). But don’t let that get you down. The book is so, so much fun. Filled with adventure and action and the kind of self-reflection that hits you smack in the face on those summer-after-senior-year days.

Incidentally, I’m reading with Tara (and David Levithan and Andrea Cremer and Anna Waggener!) on Sunday at McNally Jackson in NYC. So, come! Here’s your invitation.

Now, to win a copy of Tara’s excellent book, which features an all-night scavenger hunt, tell me this: What item from your hometown would you put on a Scavenger Hunt list? For me, I’d include a tablecloth from Allen & Son, my favorite barbecue joint in Chapel Hill–they’re those perfect gingham picnic types (I’d totally return it the next day!).

Happy Thursday!

Hands down it would be a Sundae from Sundaes…but it would probably just be the cup because it is the best Ice cream in Brick, New Jersey…during the summer people wait in line for sometimes an hour it is that good.

  2. Amber says:

A chocolate milkshakes from Le Chocolat du Bouchard….although I’m pretty sure I would drink it in a heartbeat.

  3. Kat Werner says:

I would include a picture of the person on the pier near the light house. Our light house is well known (I guess??) and was featured on a stamp, and Lake Michigan is such a big thing in our city that it would have to included on a scavenger hunt of this area.

  4. Eva says:

I would include a coaster from the local pub…

  5. Ginger says:

I would include a Katy high school football jersey. This is as close to Friday Night Lights as we get! The Katy tigers are serious about their football games (they’ve made it to state & won multiple times!).

  6. Estelle says:

Great question! I would love for people to go to my favorite diner in Jersey (Tick Tock in Clifton), eat some disco fries, and have the receipt be part of the proof. I miss those fries. haha

So looking forward to Tara’s book!

A sugar cone from our local ice cream stand.

This sounds like such a fun book! Putting it on my TBR list.

I think I’d include some kind of Toronto Maple Leafs paraphernalia or a coaster from the CN Tower restaurant. Or maybe just a perfect red maple leaf. =)

A picture of you standing in front of the “Bayside” sign because it’s a great place to hear outdoor music buy souvenirs if you’re ever in Miami, great drinks and it’s right next to the Miami Airlines Arena; where every concert and basketball game that we have takes place.

  10. Shalan says:

    Deep fried oreo/chocolate bar.

  11. I love the question! If I can put in edible things, I’d definitely say a fish taco from Vallarta’s, a hole-in-the-wall Mexican food place here in San Diego. If I can’t do perishables though, I’d say a map of Balboa Park, my favourite place – most people always think of beaches, but the amazing parks, museums, Spanish architecture and the zoo are all in Balboa, too.

  12. Sarah says:

I would have you get ice cream from South Pier Parlor or a picture in front of the lighthouse!

  13. From Morro Bay–a bowl of clam chowder from The Hofbrau der Albatross.

  14. It would have to be something from the bowling alley since that was the place to eat! Maybe some fries or a menu or something.

    Sounds like a fun book!

  15. Maggie says:

I would have to include taking a photo posed in front of the Alamo, looking like a ‘tourist’. Straw hat. fanny pack, sunscreen on the nost, all of it. Since many locals have never been to visit the Alamo, it would be fun to see them do it.

  16. Susan Light says:

Riner Va is a small farming community without a stoplight. On a scavenger hunt if you took a photo of the small roadside sign next to my house that says Riner or a photo of our beloved high school that dates from the 1930s.

    Must read this book!

Haha I can never bring myself to fold book pages. I always use “bookmarks” (usually bobbypins).
Honestly my hometown’s pretty boring, but there’s an adorable bookstore/coffeehouse, and I’d probably send them there. They have this awesome on-demand book printer that’s worth checking out. It’s fun picturing an actually book manufacturing factory with a million of those whirring simultaneously, although they probably don’t even use those for the reals. Pretty cool!

  18. Brianna says:

What a good question…I would have to put a sticker from our Utility Board Shop on the list. The place is a memory itself. It was my after school hangout. Lots of cute boys!

  19. Jen says:

An ear of corn from one of the corn fields where kids would hang out at night, hidden from all but the moon and stars.

  20. Jasprit says:

I would put in a Leicester Tigers jersey, they’re currently the best rugby team in the premier league and I’m sure they’ve got many more awesome years at the top! Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  21. Jenna says:

Mine would include a jar of sand from the beach, probably. Thanks for the giveaway!
