You guys know I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. But I also really enjoyed this parody — it’s the song that youtube’s Madinthemoon wishes Taylor would write (I have to say I agree on lots of points).

However you feel about it, it’s creative. What do you guys think?
Happy Sunday!

I liked this. Especially the Gaga part. =D

I’m a Taylor Swift fan too, but now that I watch this video I realize madinthemoon is right on.

  3. I love Taylor, but this video has some good points.

  4. I think she makes a good point. When I was in high school, honestly, I didn’t relate to many female pop stars. I liked Jewel a lot, but mostly I listened to the Foo Fighters. And harbored a secret love for Hanson.
I hadn’t thought of Taylor Swift’s songs as anti-feminist (I, too, like some of them and would have definitely loved her when I was fifteen), but this video has me thinking. Thanks for posting it, Melissa!

First, I am a fan, but I still find some of her lyrics like “I used to be a damsel in distress/You took me by the hand and you picked me up at six”, “Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone/I’ll be waiting” or “I’m crying on the staircase/begging you not go” cringeworthy because they convey the picture of a passive, dependent woman/girl, which clearly isn’t the case with Taylor, who as one of the most successful musicians has accomplished more than most people her age.

I love Taylor Swift’s music, too, but this video definitely made me pay more attention to what she’s saying in her songs.
I watched this (here) yesterday morning, and thought about it again last night after watching Kathryn Bigelow at the Oscars. I hope young women everywhere are looking up to HER as a role model now. I love the idea that somewhere out there, little girls are looking in the mirror, giving their Oscar speech for Best Director and then being like “Oh, I won Best Picture too?”

Totally right! Taylor is totally passive and whiny. That doesn’t mean I don’t like her–I just wish she were more pro-independent girl.
