(Read Part 1 of the Cover Story.) Ooh, I forgot! I wasn’t sure about the title font at first (but I was wrong). The art department indulged me and did a bunch of mockups:

Here are the mockups with in block, serif block and the final (image also brightened and apple changed, as noted in yesterday’s cover story).

The final font  is definitely the best, right? I know I’m leading you to agree with me, but I really think so! It has bite to it (like this contest). And look how much more my name stands out! I didn’t even notice that until just now. Really! (But I’m not above saying… I like it.)

  1. I completely agree with the final font and you didn’t lead me. I much prefer your name in the block type rather than the cursive and using the cursive for “Small Town” makes it seem more, well, small towny. Does that makes sense?

  2. I like it the best, too. I like the way your name is very bold and straight-forward, unlike the two that are scripty, where your name isn’t noticed as readily. I think mixing two fonts into the title, where one is script and the other isn’t, adds something extra and gives emphasis to each individual word!

Yes! I like the final cover best :) even the apple has a bigger bite in it, lol. Everything looks more vibrant, your name is prominent, the font sends across a cooler emotional message… love it!

  4. Whitney says:

I was JUST admiring the font choices on the ARC cover last night! Love the contrast with the two fonts.

Also, saw your tweet about being a high school yearbook editor — me too!

LOVE the final font decisions. It is just perfect. Definitely my favorite of all your covers so far!

Hi! MIA for awhile…moved, but finally loving my new place! Love the final font…misread your post and thought it said first font was the best…was hapy I had misread because final is def best!
Can not wait to read the book!

  7. Tiff says:

Final font is definitely best, and I like it brighter as well! I also like the apple bite better…having done the challenge myself, I can assure you that it is much harder to create a small heartbite than a big one!

  8. Ashley says:

The final one is definitely the best, especially with how your name stands out more. But the title font with the script and mixing of 2 fonts… it’s just more emotional somehow. Of the other 2 the middle one is next best, I think.

  9. The final version is definitely the best, your name just pops! Plus, I love the title fonts…the other two covers fonts just seem so clunky and overbearing.

Your publisher’s art department did a great job! :)

Yes, the final type is absolutely the best. I loved seeing the previous options, though!

  11. Lauren says:

I really like the final font. The other fonts remind me of band’s posters for their gigs.

  12. Hannah S. says:

haha! now looking at the three possible small town sinner faces i can definitely see it….see how the muted colors DO kinda make her look dead.
but the cover in the stores, the brighter one is so pretty! seriously, melissa, so pretty!
