Dream Cars

Melissacar.jpg I just read that the #1 choice of car for teens is the Ford Mustang. When I was 15, my dad and I started looking for cars together. I had a dream car in mind. Yup, a classic 1965 Ford Mustang. This was 1993, but there were still some Mustangs on the road in our town. We even test-drove a Carolina blue convertible one, and I nearly crashed it because there was just pure force under that hood.
As you can see by the photo here, in which I’m almost 16 and obviously unaware that my socks look ridiculous, I didn’t end up with a muscle car. Quite the opposite, in fact. I had saved babysitting and birthday money for about six years (yes, I’m a total nut but I really, really looked forward to getting my license). I bought an ’88 Ford Festiva, which I named Ferdinand, on the day that the North Carolina Tarheels won the ’93 NCAA basketball championship. It was cheap, it was a stick shift, it was the perfect little car. Actually, it still runs–I just sold it to my brother, who drives it around Chapel Hill to this day.
I would love to hear what dream cars you guys had/have! Maybe with the price of gas you have a dream Vespa?

My dream car was a Jeep Wrangler which I got sophomore year of college. Loved that thing. Nothing was ever more fun.

I wanted a Jeep Wrangler when I was sixteen. The guy living across the street was selling his Jeep Wrangler.
    I got a Subaru Justy.
And ten years later, a whole lot of people at my high school reunion remembered me as “the one with the little read car.”
    Um, yeah.
But it could have been a little red Jeep Wrangler.
    I’m just sayin’.

  3. My dream car – anything but the little silver 1988 Ford Escort with the red interior and seat belt that automatically strangled passengers and the driver when you shut the door. :) It was a sort of gift from my parents.. I paid for half -$100, paid the car insurance, and gas – which at that time cost me less than $10 to fill up.
But, the silver bullet was better than my brother’s 1980 pinto. :)

  4. I’m still thinking of this post. I remember feeling proud and lucky that I had a car.. :) Although, I was secretly jealous of my friend who’s dad bought her a brand new 1994 Mazda Miata.

I have my permit right now, so I already know I’m going to get my mom’s car right now, which is a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer.
My dream car would be a Mustang that is orange with black racing stripes. :] That would be amazing.

  6. Mmm, my dream car is a orange with black stripes Mini Cooper.
We had a blue with white sripes classic Mini and I fell completely in love with it.

Oh, my dream car is the Scion XB. My family calls it the Toaster. My best friend has one and loves it! She calls it the box, and it gets some great gas mileage, too. I also have this little box obsession thing, where anything that can contain other things, I love them! Such as purses, jars, boxes, etc. So a car that kinda looks like a box is perfect for me! But I don’t like the newer version of the car. It looks like a bigger PT Cruiser, which my sister in law calls a squashed up hearse!
So my dream car is a red, silver, blue, or (they don’t make this one) dark brown Scion XB 2006 or older version.

Dream car: little red Mini as featured in “The Holiday.” I can’t fit my harp in it, if I had kids THEY wouldn’t fit in it, but it is SO CUTE. It does get something like 40 mpg though!

It’s like we live parallel lives! I too wanted a 65 Ford Mustang. I did get a Ford….Tempo! HA!
It was a stick also had to learn to drive it…burned out the clutch in 3 months.
It overheated…my dad said put anti-freeze in anything you can take the cap off of!…and I did.
The radiator, the reservoir, the brake fluid compartment, power steering fluid compartment, the windshield wiper box…the car ran really funny and one day when I had the family with me they all started laughed when I turned on the wipers and lime green fluid flew all over the window!
Ahhh gotta love youth and their cars!

  10. Why, a yellow 911 Turbo Porsche, of course! Haha.
Actually, I was just incredulous and grateful to even get a car when I turned 16. I inherited my grandfather’s 1990 Bonneville, which is a complete barge, and also makes for some interesting parallel parking. BUT, it only has 50,000 miles on it, runs pretty well, and unless you consider gas and insurance, it cost me nothing.
However, it was pretty hot yesterday and it stalled out on me as I was turning across 2 lanes of fast traffic, which made me quite angry and terrified, so I might just be biking it today until I get it checked out…

My dream car would be any type of Volvo. The older, the better. =P
But I’m going to be getting my parents’ old car… a 1995 Sable station wagon. xD

Of course you saved for six years. Suze Orman would be proud!

Mine was a 1969 Boss 302 Mustang. Still haven’t got one yet, but I do have a 1965 Mustang coupe that I’m in the process of restoring.
