Win-It Wednesday: crystal j. silk scarf!
Thanks to all of you guys who took the quiz last week! It's fun to take, so even if you didn't get a chance to enter the contest, still check out the quiz and see what book you get. The winner this week, however, is.... Paaaris! Remind me of your address, P, and I'll send you your signed copy of Girl Overboard. Wooo!
This week's Win-It Wednesday is a fashion item, in honor of VIP's release month. crystal j. silk is an indie arts + craft outfit that works with silk painting. COOL--check out their stuff on etsy. Scarves are a signature item, and they've agreed to donate this amazing skull scarf (with hearts, too, to cut the edge) to one lucky winner. It's 100% habotai silk, which starts out white and then is painted with dye--like watercolor on silk! And, this one-of-a-kind scarf will have the words Violet in Private scripted in tiny letters on the bottom, so you'll always remember me! Haha. I want one, too, but I'll have to pay. Wah.
Anyway, one of you guys will win this scarf, but you have to promise to send me a photo of you rocking it. As a headband, a scarf, tied to your bag, around your waist... oh, so many possibilities. Okay?
To win, just comment below and tell me what your signature piece is. Like the thing you almost always wear. For me, it used to be Converse but now I think it's ballet flats. I had to grow up... slightly. But I still sport the Chucks a lot. Oh, and there's a heart necklace that I wear a lot. That too.
So what's yours? You've got a week to enter; I'll choose a winner next Wednesday.
PS-Party photos and highlights from the gift bags soon. Promise. We had a packed bar last night--thanks so much to everyone who came out!
PPS-If you dyed a silk scarf for Violet, you might totally win the big contest. Keep working on your ideas!

My signature item would be my Gucci watch. I wear it everywhere because, well, time is important!

I've got a red beaded bracelet that I tend to pull out around now, late summer. So that's my seasonal signature piece! I'm pretty lazy, so the real answer, jeans, got pushed out in favor of something more interesting!

A signature item? I used to wear one necklace every day, but I switched it each year. The last year I did that it was a copper disk on a black cord. One side had a dragon, the other a crescent moon.
Now I change up what I wear too much. (I think one of my friends put it, "One day she's all pink and floaty and the next she's goth poetry.") I don't like being restricted in what I wear. I do have a weakness for Betsey Johnson, BCBG, Ralph Lauren, Vans, and Doc Martens.
I do tend to wear the same jewelry every day (watch, earrings, ring), but I don't consider any of it signature. My jewelry is interesting for what I change - which bangle I choose, which necklace (if any).

I was just looking at this scarf earlier. My signature piece is probably my rainbow sandals. May be it's because I'm a SoCal gal, but I pick my Rainbows over all my really cute shoes. Always have my class ring on though, so I guess that's my true signature piece.
It used to be pearls and a bunch of bracelets.

I sometimes wear this ring that I made from green wire that I got from Michael's. There are two of them. One is square shaped with a slight wave of many strands and the other is many wavy strands that form a star.
My other signature thing is walking around barefoot or in flip flops. Granted, it has caused me to get callouses on my feet-which I don't like, but that will not stop me from doing that! And last year when I was a crossing guard (I recently had to quit because I developed a shoulder problem from lifting the sign.) I wore my flip flops every day to work. Hahahaha. Being in the sun for 30 minutes to 90 minutes a day (depending on the schedule) caused me to get a tan on my feet! It's starting to fade a little, but it was kinda cool! I'll leave a link to my blog where I took a picture of my tanned feet.

My signature piece right now is a necklace I ordered from the US. It's quite appropriate fom my type of job and I get comments on it all the time!
It's from Made with Molecules and it's a silver Serotonin molecule which is the pleasure/happiness neurotransmitter in our brain. I work in the addiction/mental health field so it's cool when a client asks what it's all about. :-)

I always wear Pumas, even during soccer. Not many people in my school do, but I'm addicted! I only buy puma soccer gear anymore and I won't wear sneakers unless they're Puma.
Oh, and I made a new one today! This guy in my class always wears patterned shorts and I always ask him why and he never gives me a reason, so I've decided to only wear colored shorts. I wore orange ones today and I'm wearing my awesome green ones tomorrow!
Although I don't wear scarves, that one is totally beautiful and I'd totally love to wear it! It's so pretty!

My signature item is a shoe necklace. The shoe is not a flip flop like you usually see rather a Cinderella-style high heal with little crystals. I got it from my aunt a few years ago and never wore it until recently. But everyone loves it, I even had a girl ask me where I got it so that she could buy one for her sister, who apparently had been raving about it. Now I never go anywhere without it.
P.S. I LOVE that scarf!

Oooh, very nice! I'd have to say that I go with the layering look a lot, escpecially when winter hits--it gets bitter in MI, especially since we're close enough to a Great Lake to get the lake effect weather. So you'll often see me in a tank top with a long sleeved shirt over top, and a sweater...and a jacket...and a scarf. Even inside! I hate being cold!

I PROMISE!!
haha
ok so my signature piece is this little clip that i always use to pin my hair up. its an ordinary clip but on one end of it theres a little bow made of (fake) diamonds. hehe I love it...I'm wearing it right now!

My signature piece is a simple, sterling silver bracelet with the words Anam Cara engraved in a gaelic-ish font. My sister has the same bracelet. It goes with everything.

Do tattoos count? I have three - two of my family crests (one from my mom's side and the other from my dad's) and the Japanese character for "snake" (I'm the year of the snake). But since I can't take those off, perhaps they don't count? I guess my new signature item would have to be the silver and gold nugget bracelet my husband bought for me recently.

I am a huge fan of Marie Osmond and a few years ago I bought one of her dolls - which came with a little charm - the letter M in gold. I have taken that charm and attached it to EVERY bracelet I have worn in the last 5 years!!!!! and I make sure to wear it everyday.

I should mention that my cousin Anne I. sent me your way! :)

My signature piece is probably my white and neon pink converses. I've been rocking them forever, and I havent seen many people with them.
Posted by Jordan | August 13, 2008 9:35 PM
Ooh, I like the scarf, but since I'm a dude, I don't think I could rock it out. :-( Buuttt, if I do win it, I'll take a pic of myself wearing it, and then give it to one of my (girl)friends as a gift. One's b-day is a month away... Anyway, my signature thing is funky shoelaces. Right now I'm sporting a neon pink with my black shoes.

Tragic as this is, my signature piece is my pair of black flip-flops--which explains why my feet look so scaly and dry and gross most of the time. The other is my black bra. I only have one (because, hello? Bras are not cheap and it's the only comfortable one I have!), and I wear it practically every day. Sure, most people can only see the straps--but that's still a sig piece, right? HEY! Have I entirely grossed you out yet? That's my mission, you know... :-)
XO
PS: Confession: FINALLY just finished VOTR (I am so lame) and actually cried through the last couple chapters (from the point where Roger and Violet are IM-ing after she gets home). I'm going to be up for the next several nights straight reading VBD and then VIP! Damn, you are just so good. (And I'm such a slacker.)

Oooh! I also have the seratonin necklace from Made with Molecules, and I have earrings from them as well that I mix and match (I work in psych research right now) so I'll wear a seratonin with a dopamine, or acetylcholine with norepinephrine for focus, or GABA and glutamate to feel balanced.
(I know, I am SUCH a nerd!)
But right now, I wear two small silver necklaces almost every day. I found this jeweler on esty (Kathryn) who does metal work and I save up and then add to my collection. My necklaces are two circles, one that says "be" and the other says "hope". They remind me both to be in the moment and be mindful and aware and enjoy life, and also that Pandora kept hope in the box, which means so much. (Did I mention I'm a nerd?)
I love them, and I have gotten so many compliments, and they can be customized, and I tend to give them as gifts.
and, just as a side note, scarves run a close second to an always-accessory . . . I switch them up with my outfits, tie them on my handbags, use them as headbands and belts or bracelets. However, I'm always switching colors and styles unlike, say, Miranda Priestly from DWP. ;)

Sweeeeet scarf!!!
My signature piece is currently knee-high converse (they're the coolest thing I've ever owned and they look soooo amazing with minidresses) but I suppose my only official signature piece is my "wedding" ring. My best friend and I got "married" to eat other by signing napkins at a chinese restaurant in 9th grade, and sophomore year she bought rings for us. The ring is a thin silver band with a pale green cut glass heart in the middle. I wear it on my ring finger and it serves as a friendship ring, purity ring, and general reminder to me of who I am. It may not be that obvious, but I never go anywhere without it. :)

My signature item...
[laughs]
Everyone who hangs around me knows it. I love Jack Skellington and for Christmas last year I got this great purple and black zip up hoodie jacket with Sally on the back... it goes everywhere and anywhere... I always have it on... its just so comfy. It just keeps me warm and the pockets are great. I feel naked without it really, its like the adult version of a baby blankie [laughs]
Love that scarf, man. And its purple, dude how perfect is that?
Insanely! It even matches! AH!

i wouldnt really say i have a signature item...maybe skinny pants, since i wear them a lot, but there's no particular something that i wear all the time. maybe flip flops, since i love wearing them so much (except when it's cold outside, i cant stand having my feet cold)

Cool scarf ... I know my daughter would love that, or even my wife ... on a guy, it definitely wouldn't go as well.
I guess I have two. First, my shoulder bag has the abbreviation for my old company on it (I haven't worked there in 5+ years now) and it can be taken as off-color... think a PG version of Jules' wallet in Pulp Fiction. Ha! Second, if going out in public (convention, book signing, etc.)I wear a green snapbrim. I actually have 2 I alternate ... and both $5 at Target!

My signature piece is the t-shirt. Yeah, I have a few dressier itmes, but 95+% of the time I'm living life in a t-shirt with various jeans/shorts/sweats. I'm the more relaxed kind of girl...

My signature item would have to be my ring. I don't know if it has any type of brand name or anything, but I got it off ebay. I never go anywhere without it and only take it off to sleep or if I need to wash my hands or something. Yeah I basically feel naked without it.

I always wear a hematite ring on my thumb. I have for years. Don't know why.
Cool scarf!

My signature piece would be my Levi's jeans. I wear that for almost every occasion! =]

Hey everybody!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your kind words about the scarf! It's been fun to read about all of your signature items :)
Good Luck!
Cheers,

Wow that's so pretty.
My signature piece is my wedding ring. I was married a year ago wednesday Aug 20th. I havn't taken it off (of course I wouldn't). It's my favourite piece and it means the world to me because it reminds me of the person I love more than anything.

I would love to win this scarf! It's so pretty :) My signature item is my pair of Seven for all Mankind dark wash flair jeans. They just fit me so well and make me feel so attractive everytime I wear them! Isn't that what clothes are supposed to do?
Please enter me and thank you for the very generous contest!

My signature piece? Would it be weird to say my glasses? I just LOVE them.
Not sure if that counts, but it's the only thing I'd really say fit. Unless I say the pair of Silvers that I got from my best friend's mom, which make my butt look extremely amazing and irresistible...
