Win-It Wednesday: Revenge of the Homecoming Queen!
First, how fun were those prank stories you shared last week? I loved all of them, and I'm glad I don't have to pick a winner, because a random number generator does it for me! And the winner is... Grace L! G, send me your address for your autographed copy of E. Lockhart's fabulous The Boy Book.
Now on to this week's contest:
When I first started reading Stephanie Hale's Revenge of the Homecoming Queen, I thought, Oh, man. The main character Aspen is hard to like! She's so stuck up! But as I got immersed in the book, I really started enjoying this unlikely heroine and her hilarious inner dialogue. By the end of the story, I was thorougly loving the adventure I'd been on with Aspen, and I can't wait to read the sequel, Twisted Sisters, which just came out this month!
So, I'm giving away a copy of Revenge of the Homecoming Queen to one commenter below. My question for you is: "Did you ever dream of being Homecoming Queen (or King)?"
Confession time: I did. When I was about 8 years old, I got obsessed with a tiara that my cousin Sarah Parker had won after being crowned Queen at her school. I thought it was the ideal. I snapped out of that mindset by high school when my friend Anna won the crown, but I have to admit, it was a dream of mine once!

Nope. I did want to be Band Sweetheart, but I knew that was a long shot. My friend Abby had it in the bag. ^_^
(She also got Prom Queen, which was totally awesome. Both our Prom Queen and King were honors students involved in several activities.)
Also, I get an invitation for Miss Teen Texas every year. This amuses me as I have never been involved with pageants, so I'm not sure why I get an invite. (Alas, I'm pretty sure this was my last year eligible. *sigh*)

No, actually.... I was more a bookworm and not nearly as beautiful and popular as most -- in fact I was pretty unpopular :) Geeky really.

I haven't ever really wanted to be a Homecoming Queen. I've never really been into that girly stuff enough to actually want to.

No, never did, never will. Let asaide the fact that here in Israel they don't even have those, prom king and queen are a stupid popularity contest I wouldn't even consider participating in. It's very shallow and fake.
Besides, it mimiks "royalty" - kings that only cared about themselves and not about their countries (Louey the 14th, for example), had fancy balls and feasts while their people were starving. Great role models, aren't they?
I think depth and intelligence are much more important than prettiness and emptiness.

Nope, not once. Plus here in Quebec they don't really do the whole Homecoming Queen/King thing. I did want to be a Rock Star though (still do) and wanted nothing more than to sing for a living and wear cool punk clothes!
I have to admit I thought I would be the only No comment, but it seems 4 others beat me to it. I think it's a bookworm thing. :)

I join the other commenters in saying: I have yet to ever want to be homecoming queen. It just doesn't appeal to me, along with general super-popularity. Sure, I wouldn't mind being hit on by a few more guys and perhaps knowing a few more people's names... but what else? If I'm not homecoming queen, I still get to wear gorgeous dresses and come with/without date, and avoid the whole yearbook deal. :D

Well, I hate to break with tradition, but I did want to when I was younger. So much, in fact, that I had my own plastic tiaras and such. But now, I'd probably shoot someone if they tried to make me Homecoming Queen.

I have never dreamed of being the homecoming queen. My friends and I always had fun pretending we were at dances when we were younger, but never pretending we won the queen status.

I'm surprised that I'm with the majority here. No, I never really wanted to be Homecoming Queen. I think that I never wanted it because I'm a wallflower type of girl. I don't want to be in the spotlight. That's was always okay with me, though, I enjoyed junior high and high school even though I wasn't popular. It didn't really matter to me.

Nope...at least not yet.

There's no such thing as Homecoming Queen at my school =/ we're just way too nerdy.
So I've never dreamt of it lol.

I actually thought our homecoming queen WAS stuck up, so I most certainly didn't want to be her! Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
Posted by Stephanie | April 16, 2008 8:33 PM
Nope, never did. I was more busy with other stuff, so I couldn't fit that in, lol. That's okay with me, though!

I was a princess senior year. Truthfully, I knew I wouldn't win, so I don't think I ever dreamed about it. Achieving that princess status was good enough for me!

whahoooo!!!!!! ahahahaha (thanx rachael). melissa u just made my day!!!!!!
i just emailed you my address so you should be getting it anytime soon.
um okok...i guess every girl imagines (-ed) themselves as a princess or queen sometime in their life, whether its for Homecoming or like Cinderella or Ariel etc. I remember a few years ago i told my mom that, for my wedding dress, I wanted a train longer than Princess Diana's. I also told her that i wanted my wedding to be held in a castle with a million people attending...haha! Now, I'm a bit more realistic. I mean it will be awesome to have a fairy tale wedding but it might be smarter to invest the money used for that big wedding, into a house or a family...so yea
but I digress (haha my english teacher always uses that word. rachael u know!!)
but i actually think i will run for homecoming queen senior year (cuz only seniors can run for it at my school) it will be a good experience even if i lose. and it will be fun (making all the posters, shopping for dresses, shoes, getting ready for the dance...)!!! :D

I'd say when I was a freshman that was - sadly - my main goal in life. Not really, but close. I helped decorate the gym and everything, sold tickets to people but then I was a junior, I went with my best friend and her friend who drives like a bat out of hell and we almost hit a pole by the funeral home (ironic?).
So, yes at first, but after that I we did an Anti-Homecoming deal and went to the movies until the place closed... the next morning. ;]

I had/have no desire to be homecoming king or queen. :-P I wouldn't win it anyway.
Posted by Ink | April 17, 2008 10:37 AM
Not really. I always had my nose buried in a book, never bothered with all that.
Thanks for this great giveaway.
Btw, I'm having THREE GIVEAWAYS combined on both my blogs. Hope you'll stop by.

No, I don't think I've ever dreamed about becoming Homecoming Queen. I just don't think I'd fit into that sort of personality, and just the occurrence of it would make me uncomfortable (I try to avoid being the center of attention as much as possible). I have imagined myself being student council president and such, but otherwise no.

Yes I do want to be Prom Queen but I'm scared that I won't win. I mean I'm not popular and not a lot of people know me. I am very shy and quiet but everytime I read a book about a girl who becomes prom queen I feel like I've also won. I feel like if I was the main character.
Posted by Carolina | April 19, 2008 7:18 PM
I haven't dreamed of that yet. =)
I'm finishing freshman year as a homeschooler. But I'll be going to a charter school softmore year.
I don't think the school chooses a homecoming king and queen...

No! Homecoming Queen is such a popularity contest. If I won just because I was pretty or because I did what the other kids do, what prize in there in that? I'd prefer to be set apart, thank you.
Posted by Stephanie W | April 20, 2008 11:34 PM
I'm sure I probably dreamed of being the homecoming queen...but I think I also blocked the entire dream out of my mind. SO my answer is no, I have no recollection of that. :) XO

I have wanted to be homecoming queen and I haven't. I wanted to be homecoming queen because it would give me the reassurance that people liked me enough to vote for me. Also I would get to put on a fancy dress and get all dolled up. Then I don't want to be homecoming queen because you then get stereotyped and I am not that kind of person. So see I really have mixed feelings about the whole thing....but I know it won't ever happen!!
Posted by Tasha | April 21, 2008 5:55 PM
Erm, no. Never dreamed of being homecoming queen mostly because I knew it would never happen. My high school experience was very unorthodox, besides the fact that, hi, I'm a total geek.
When is the third VIOLET book gonna be out?
Posted by Jordyn | April 21, 2008 10:58 PM
No, I didn't really dream about becoming Homecoming Queen, mostly coz we don't do that sort of thing where I live! Anyway, I was always too shy to even want to win any kind of popularity contests! Lol, but I wanted to be a princess-ballerina when I was little, if that helps! =D

Not homecoming queen - I set my sights lower - Christmas Ball Queen. That didn't work out either...
