Win-It Wednesday: The Season by Sarah MacLean
Last week's thankful-for-coffee winner of The Possibilities of Sainthood by Donna Freitas is... Jamie! Send me your address, J.
This week, I'm giving away a copy of Sarah MacLean's The Season. Some of you may have read this one already, but if you haven't, you should know that it's a treat! Think the London Season (i.e. social debut time) in Regency England, three whip-smart girls who are BFFs, dashing suitors and a murder. Love, mystery, friendship, witty banter... what more is there in life? The Season is a bubbly ride from beginning to end. I could hear the accents in my head as I read. Such fun!
Also, Sarah does these great interviews on her blog called "Inside the Characters' Studio" where she interviews book characters. The lastest is Paris Pan from Cynthea Liu's Paris Pan Takes the Dare.
To enter to win, let me know in the comments which era you best love reading or writing about. For me, I'm all contemporary in the writing--and I mostly read contemporary novels too--but I think it's really fun to dip into historical fiction like The Season, and even futuristic novels (Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series is one of my favorites). You guys?
I'll announce a winner and a new contest next Wednesday, as usual. Good luck!

The cover is so cool!
Ummm... I'd say reading about, um well the present is what I prefer. I don't know. I did enjoy the Gemma Doyle series and that wasn't anywhere close to this time period. And there are many others too, although I don't remember the titles.
What I think is super duper cool is reading old, futuristic books and comparing those ideas to the present. I's so freaky becaue some of those-the world is gonna end type of books- are dead on about whats happening now! Hope we don't die.
Happy reading and writing. :o)

I definitely prefer contemporary books - they make up the bulk of what I read. However, I've read a few futuristic type books lately and I've really enjoyed them. I agree about the "Uglies" series - so amazing! I do enjoy historical fiction to a certain extent, but ... I don't know, it's not my thing. Which is weird because I was a history major in university. Maybe that's why? I like learning about the real events, but seeing fictional stories happening within those events (often with wrong or exaggerated details) doesn't really interest me. There are some exceptions to this, although I can't think of them at the moment. My favourite "historical" type novels are ones with a sci-fi(ish) twist, where a modern protagonist gets sent back in time and has to deal with things (e.g. Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict).

this looks lovely.
I love reading books about 15th century Japan, actually. Although I really just love reading about any time period, as long as it happens in Japan. But if there are carriages and emporers and samurai and geisha - so much the better!

I'm all over the place--I think it's the story for me, and not necessarily the time period. I like to read about the Civil War--I like to read about the Civil Rights Movement. I like books like Catching Fire set in the future, but I also like contemporary books like 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher or some of E. Lockhart's books. Anyway, it depends on the story and characters as I said--and I love YA, children's, and adults.

Read These Books and Use Them

My favorite is stories set in the 19th century pioneer, settling the west sort of settings. There's just something about small towns and the prairie that I just love. :)

My favorite are contemporary novels and Victorian era.

I prefer contemporary books, but futuristic and historical books can be really good too!

I mostly prefer contemporary books, but I often enjoy reading about Victorian England, too. The Season sounds great; I didn't know there was a murder involved ;)

I'm mostly contemporary, but I love modernist novels--not necessarily ones set in the post-war era, but just the writing from that time.
I also love Regency period women's writing - I like to think of it as Regency chick-lit, you know, Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, etc.
I'm not usually a historical novel fan, but I'll give anything a try.

I read "Gringolandia" and loved seeing the 80s as historical fiction. I was in HS then, and it is both interesting and depressing seeing it as 'historical.'

Hmmm. Well, I enjoy historical fiction, especially late 1700s to early 1800s, and in Britain.
Futuristic writing...is not really my taste, although I have read Uglies and have not liked it much.
Please enter me into the contest!

I love reading around the tudors era, it was such a gorgeous time, and if not then i'd say the victorian era. Always such beautiful settings, you feel as though you've been transported back in time, to days where they wore such beautiful dresses. Ahh if only :D

Yikes, I love historical, but futuristic is so cool. It fun to see author's different ideas of what could happen!

Looks like a great read, very visually appealing.
I would have to say that I am a modern type of reader, I love the upto date books, with an occasional historic or future read. I do have a soft spot for royalty types of stories, where there is balls and high society characters.
Thanks, look forward to reading this

I tend to read contemporary international fiction, but really I like almost any kind of book if its well written! -Sharada

If well written will read a post on a cereal box.... I happen to get a kick out of books in the Regency England time period they were the first Romance stories read when in my 20's. Now I mostly read contemporary Thrillers and am heavy into Paranormal Urban Fantasy and Romance series books.
I love the cover on this book because one of the young ladies looks similar to Ali Larter only with dark hair(one in blue0 and another looks like the young blonde actress who plays Carolyn on Vampire Diaries(only at a glance though).
Please put my name in the hat, would love to read something "light" for a change.....

I like contemporary fiction the best, but switch it up with historical fiction and sci-fi/futuristic as well.

I really enjoy contemporary stories, both fiction and non-fiction (memoirs).

Oh, I've been wanting this one for awhile.
Hmm...I really like medieval work, but I do have a special place in my heart for Regency England. For me, it's not so much time period as location--Europe or East Asia is my faves.

I love reading historical fiction - anything between 11th and 19th Century, preferably in the British Isles. Girls tend to be too liberal and sassy in Contemporary fiction. I don't mind forward thinking strong female characters, like Finn in Ransom My Heart by Meg Cabot, but "new agers", forget it!

I'd have to say modern day or the 1800s. For modern day I can relate better, but the 1800s are such a whirlwind of fashion and gossip and all that fun stuff (:

I love novels set in Regency England (that's coming from a Janeite, right here!), but I also love books set in Elizabethan England, the Victorian era, American colonial times...oh, and books set in WWII are always so interesting to me. I just love, love, love historical fiction! Ah, those were the good ol' days with such pretty gowns...and everyone loved to read!! Gotta love it!

Regency Period and Victorian era will be my favourites :)

I love contemporary novels too! But my next favorite is the elizabethan victorian era. The ones with the huge full skirts, corsets, and hair to the sky!!! Also the 1920's were also very glamourous!! this novel looks so cute!!
thanks

i love reading book that were written by authors in the early 19th century and the victorian era. i love the perspective and i feel there is more words within the book then you can see. Like as if the story were a rag and you just initially squezzed out all the water as much as possible. there is still that little bit left that you have to work to get out by twisting it and pulling it everywhich way. i just love those stories.

I'm a huge fan of the 1920s America setting, although I especially enjoy steampunk/alternate history settings that utilize that time period. Something about the roaring '20s is very appealing to me. The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books of all time.

I like the regency period - actually I like anything romantic!

I like books at the turn of the century or right before WWI, mainly because I feel like I don't know enough about this time!

I would definitely say my favorite era to read about is mid to late 1800's and the WWII era.
Great giveaway! Count me in.

I absolutely love Victorian Era and Regency Era books! Most of my favorites are in these time periods - Bewitching Season, A Great and Terrible Beauty, etc.
Though don't enter me, I already have my own copy of The Season :) - I just wanted to answer

I love futuristic books, especially dystopias - like the Uglies trilogy, The Hunger Games, and Little Brother.
I also enjoy reading about the present - it's obviously easier to relate to.
The past can also be great, finding out more about a different era.
Basically - reading in general rocks!
