Photo Friday: I Got a Cat!
I won't go crazy posting photos (um, after today) but I had to introduce my new cat Swayze. Yes, he's named after the dearly departed Dirty Dancer.
See, he loves books already!
And he really likes the kitchen.
The glass coffee table is a source of confusion.
He sits and waits for Dave to come out of the bedroom.
And he sleeps cutely too!
So, question for you cat owners out there: Should we get another one? We're thinking about two, so they'll have company when we go away for a weekend. And also because Swayze is totally crazy and energetic, and it might be fun for him to have another cat. Thoughts?

I think getting another one while he's young is best. It will be an easier transition. If he gets older and is used to ruling the house then he might be threatened if you bring another cat in. I've heard some people who don't have problems with it, but for me it's never been easy to do. I say get a little girl kitty and call her Baby! :P

Oh my goodness, he's so cute! I love cats. Growing up I've always had a cat. But we've only had one cat at a time so I wouldn't be the right person to give advice.

Awww, so adorable!! Cats are just absolutely hilarious... There's something about their innate sense of entitlement that I totally love. I'm not sure what that says about me, haha, but oh well.
And yes, I would totally recommend two cats - we have two and it's great... they're such pals and they sleep snuggled up on the futon together all the time, yet they also run around like crazy attacking each other. They're clearly crazy whackos, but that's another story. =b Like Amee said, I would get another one soon if you're going to - that way they're used to having each other around and Swayze won't feel threatened by a new addition to the household.

Two cats are lovely together - they really do keep each other company. :)
Swayze is so cute!! I love him. He reminds me of one of my cats...
Get another while they're young enough to adapt to each other. And I would srsly recomend getting another boy cat.
Cheers,
Kaz

So cute and love the name! I have two cats and I feel like they would be lonely without the other. Also, it gives them some entertainment (playing with each other) when everyone in my family is gone all day.
Up to you, though!(:

He's adorable!
As for the multiple issue, mine are littermates. That makes a difference; they've never been solo acts. I understand that having non-littermates will give you a different experience.
Talk to the experts: the adoption people at your local shelters. Talk to more than one. Then decide.

He's so cute!!! Aww, I love cats - they're my favorite animals. :)
Haha my cat does the same thing with coffee tables; he freaks out and doesn't understand them at all.
Oh have you shown your cat a mirror yet? If not, you should and see his reaction! My cat HATES mirrors. He hisses and paws at it, it's so funny.

If this video doesn't convince you to get a second, I don't know what will!

I highly recommend having two cats, both about the same age. I have a girl and boy cat, they are both spayed and neutered, and they're fine together - in fact, they're from the same litter, so they've always been together, and they're just so happy and cuddly together. I think it's especially helpful when you don't have a lot of time to play with them or you go away. It makes it so much easier on both you and them, and they are so good with other animals, children, and people.
Plus, then you get to photograph them doing adorable stuff like this:

I'm not a big cat person, but your guy is so cute. I love his tiger stripes in the first picture.

Ooooooh, Melissa! He's adorable. Such long ears. Definitely, get the second.

Yes! Get another one. Two are really just as much trouble as one (if slightly more expensive due to food/vet/etc.) but they'll tend to play and wrestle with each other instead of, you know, your furniture. :) And a lonely cat is not a good thing, so if you go away, they'll have their companion.
I had two, a boy and a girl, who were litter-mates; my boy sadly passed away three weeks ago. :( But because my girl had always had a companion, I went to find her a new pal, and now we're slowly adjusting. So I would DEFINITELY recommend finding a kitty around the same age (he looks pretty young) and probably another male; so long as they're both neutered, they shouldn't squabble over territory. Boys tend to adapt to new cats better, and if they're still both young enough, they'll grow up and be SO CUTE together!

Absolutely adorable. I volunteer with my local Humane Society and we always recommend adopting kittens in pairs. :) It's better for them to have someone to play with, plus if they're driving each other crazy they have less energy to drive you crazy. lol Unless of course, they team up on you.

I have no idea how old Swayze is but will tell you from my own personal experience, do not do not wait until the rascal is grown or will not accept another cat because he will then be the Alpha and you will have constant fights on your hands.
I can tell you this much, cats are great company for each other when they are litter mates and or gotten at the same time and are the same age and grow up together. Male and female, 2 females, 2 males makes no difference....
I love the pics Melissa and never worry about going crazy posting more, never enough cute pet pics for us animal lovers to oooh and aaaah over.....
Good luck whatever you decide and if you do not get another furball do not worry the one you have will outgrow the energy and believe me way too soon will be a grown up aloof cat who has no time for mere humans unless wanting food....

Such a gorgeous cat, and a great name, I'd say get two, they can keep each other company when no ones in the house. I'll be honest, i actually have six (and four dogs!) they're a handful, but all so lovely, we've got kai, damien, tink, jiutsu, kensei and patch - i wouldn't trade them for the world, i'm really wanting another actually hehe.
