Win-It Wednesday: Sweetgrass Basket by Marlene Carvell
The winner of last week's Libba Bray contest, chosen randomly, is... Janet Charoensook! Email me your address, JC.
This week, I'm giving away the readergirlz November featured book, Sweetgrass Basket by Marlene Carvell. It's a lovely story of two Native American sisters who are sent to an off-reservation school after the death of their mother.
November is Native American Heritage month. But I'm sure you knew that already. (It's okay, I just learned it last year, but I'm so glad to know now!)
Anyway, to enter to win a copy of this lovely novel (which you can read quickly and then discuss on readergirlz all month!), I'm going to ask you to answer a market-research question in the comments:
Do you play video games? And if so, which ones are your favorites?
I just bought a vintage Nintendo and relived my sixth-grade joy at playing Super Mario Brothers. Yes! But I also want some good suggestions for, um, modern games to play. Dave's are all guns and gore, which is fine, but not totally my thing. Help?
Good luck!

Umm... I can't really help you, because I'm into the guns and gore stuff too... My Nintendo DS is one of my best friends though. If you have a PS2, try Kingdom Hearts. A mature game with a good story that features Disney characters. One of my faves. Any Zelda game is great. Warioware games are addictive and perfect if you're feeling a little ADD.

Yep. I love my DS, too--Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a great game with spectacular, quirky art and puzzles throughout to solve!

Well, I'm all for guts and gore too! Resident Evil is my favorite! I get bored easily.

Ok, so they're not really video games, but I am hooked on playing different solitaire games on my phone - perfect for those subway rides when you just don't feel like reading (God forbid!). My boyfriend also recently acquired a game called Blocked Traffic for his Blackberry...and seriously, if I were to get a Blackberry, I don't think I'd ever stop playing.
Enjoy!

I have the original nintendo too. I have such good memories playing when I was younger. I loved duck hunt. I can't say I play video games that much anymore.

I'm addicted to our Wii. Well, to watching the kids play it, anyway. I need to get off my lazy rear and play WITH them.
No need to enter me, Melissa. I'm dropping in to let you know I've got this up at Win a Book. Like usual.

Hmmm. This one's easy: No. I do not play video games. (I read -- a LOT!) And this book sounds very good. Thanks for the chance to win a copy!

That book sounds great! I'm a video game addict! My all time favorite game would have to be Kingdom Hearts, The first or Second i don't mind. I'm a huge disney fan so when they brought out that game, I was ecstatic. I own merchandise, like figurines, and a life size key blade, all the manga they wrote.

I haven't played a video game in a while, but I used to be so addicted to Guitar Heros 3 and like Smash Bros! lol

I'm not a big video game player. If I play, I enjoy car racing games the most. I have to admit, though, that I do enjoy playing the Wii when my brother comes to visit and brings it. And sometimes we play RockBand.

I say an Zelda game or Final Fantasy game. They have great story lines (for readers like us) and lots of action and adventure. Definitely my favorites! :]

My favourite video games? I have a top 3.
1. The Sims. I know. I am cool haha
2. Mario Kart. The N64 version where you don't lose your items when you drive off the edge of the course (because seriously, that's when you need them the most people!) It's classic.
3. Time Splitters 2. Okay. so this is a blood and gore one, but somehow when my siblings and I play it, it is not about the blood, or the gore. it is about the Lovely Ladies (that is what the GAME calls them.) we play on a team and try to to eliminate these characters with stripper names as much as possible in 2 minutes. i'm terrible at it, but my brother and sister are not, so it's okay.

I don't play videogames. I do however find time to play games on the computer. Luxor is my favorite. I tried playing the Playstion games my daughter has and I am awful at them. I can't get past the first few minutes without either getting stuck...ir killed. So why bother, it's just frustrating.

I love video games. Halo on the X-box is probably my favorite. I used to love playing Sims on the computer also. And of course, Mario World or anything with Mario is a classic. I love playing them.

Yes. I like to play Yahtzee on my DS and play Mario Party with my daughter while traveling in our van to my in-laws. Also play Mario Party on the Wii; DDR and SingStar on PS2.

I used to have a playstation that I loved to play Spyro on. A lot. I'm still kicking myself for selling it. I have a gameboy advance SP and I have Mario, Spyro, and Donkey Kong games. XD
I'd love to win this book!

I love video games! Some of my faves include Wii Sports and Wii Play, Super Paper Mario and Mario Kart Wii (also for Wii), and Rock Band and Guitar Hero for XBox 360.
If you like the old school Mario, you should try Super Paper Mario...it's sort of similar, but with the ability to go "3D"...super fun! Also, if you have a Wii and the internet, you can download all sorts of old Nintendo games and play them on the Wii!

I don't really have the most experience with modern video games... I can give you some ideas that aren't quite as old as Super Mario Bros. One must-play is the epic Nintendo 64 game Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time :) LoZ: Wind Waker for the Gamecube is great too. And of course, Spyro for playstation 1 is awesome.
