Win-It Wednesday: Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
The winner of last week's copy of Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler is... Lauren! Send me your address, L. Oh, and we did a special Sea Glass post on I Heart Daily last week, which made me think of Sarah's cover.
This week, I'm giving away a copy of Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood. It's a graphic autobiography that I am just in love with. It's the tale of Satrapi's life under the Islamic Revolution, when a totalitarian rule takes hold and the Iran-Iraq war results in bombings, murdered friends and a ban on parties. Despite the serious subject, the book is filled with charm and wit and joy. And, you know, sad and scary parts too.
So, to enter the contest, tell me what you're up to this summer. Camp, vacations, work, big dreams, goals... whatever. I wanna hear. Me? I'm writing and getting married. That takes up lots of time.
Happy Wednesday!

OH. MY. GOSH! We watched the video in my core humanities class this past semester! IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I've been trying to find the movie locally, but it looks like it's going to be an amazon order. I really hope to win this!
This summer I'm working at Hallmark, and also finishing up a summer class that ends at the end of this month, and babysitting, and of course reading! :)

I'm going to visit my grandmother with my family, which is great. As for the rest of the summer... not sure.
I read great reviews of the movie, but I actually haven't heard too much about the book.

Hi! Just posted this on Win A Book. No need to enter me. Just hanging out with the kids this summer, running around everywhere!

I'm going to band camp. Other than that, I'm just taking to extra time to sleep and read.
Congratulations on your marriage! I hope you have a wonderful wedding!

The biggest things I am doing this summer are: working on losing weight and spending as much time with my friends as possible.

Congrats to you and best of luck! May you have many happy years of love and laughter together!
We just moved into a new house and we have a 3 yr. old and a 4 month old. So my summer will be filled with organizing, entertaining, breastfeeding, cooking, cleaning, potty training...And hopefully some reading, camping, picnicing and just hanging with family and friends.

Well, I'm an elementary school librarian so I'm getting caught up on all the things I couldn't do during the school year.
Spending lots of time with my teenagers, if they will let me.
Painting a mural in my daughter's room.
Reorganizing closets.
Watching lots of movies (this is in my Netflix queue).
Reading piles of books. :)

This summer is a scary one for me, I'm wrapping up my undergrad studies, the type with no practical equivalent in the real world (literature and languages). Endings are beginnings, so I will go to either Spain to be a tour guide, Cyprus with no real idea of what to do - quite appealing, no?; or start volunteering in Denmark, which I have planned for September anyway. Five t-shirts and a pair of jeans is my new motto.

This summer I am (unsuccessfully) searching for a job, reading, and trying to have a great summer before I start college in mid-August!

If your giveaway is open to Canadians I'd love to enter. I already went on a trip to Calgary in the spring. So I'm just hanging out at home this summer and reading in the shade.

Congratulations on your summer plans! I'll attend two writing conferences, vacation in New York, harvest the green beans and tomatoes in my garden, read read read and, hopefully, write write write.

I'm looking for work, and, I hope, going to visit some friends for a few days.

My plans are sort of similar to Melissa's...but kind of different. I'm writing a case study on Canadian children's publishing, and I'm planning bachelorettes, bridal showers, and weddings as a bridesmaid. I'm also attending four other weddings. It's my wedding year. And I'm looking for work, my family is visiting, and I just moved in with my boyfriend!

My plans include running The Race For The Cure and getting ready for cross-country season. Oh, and I'm going to California to see my brother get married.

This book sounds amazing....on my summer list

I just wanted to say that this is a FANTASTIC book to feature. Teens always seem hesitant to read graphic novels, so even the incredible ones like Persepolis don't necessarily get the attention they deserve. So basically, I was thrilled to see you pick Persepolis. :)
