Win-It Wednesday + Cover Stories: Evermore and Blue Moon by Alyson Noel!!
First, the winner of last week's contest for Persepolis is... Katie Bug! Send me your address, KB.
Now, Alyson Noel's Immortals series is basically at the top of the heap this summer. Bestsellers, major sequels, a spin-off middle grade series--hooray! And yesterday, Blue Moon, the sequel to Evermore, was released.
Alyson has been kind enough to offer one commenter a signed copy of Blue Moon, and I'll send one commenter a signed (with bookplate) copy of Evermore, so two winners will be chosen next week! And here's Alyson with the Blue Moon Cover Story (remember her Evermore Cover Story?):
"Once again, I had no idea what the might look like, or even what I might want it to look like--sad, I know!
"My publisher asked for input, and even though I didn't have any real concepts in mind, this time, unlike the last time with the Evermore cover, I knew I'd be consulted so I was careful to make note of all the prominent symbols that appear in the story so I could at least appear to contribute in some way!
"The Blue Moon cover was a series of stock photos altered to within an inch of their lives! The girl is made to represent Ever, and the flowers inside the crystal ball she holds depict the blooming fields of Summerland--a mystical dimension she frequents.
"When I saw the first version of the cover (right), I thought, not so much. But we all
knew we weren't going to use it, we were just finding our way at that point. I have the best editor ever--Rose Hilliard rocks!--and we had quite a few phone calls and e-mail exchanges about the direction we wanted to go in.
"The cover changed greatly and for the better! Since it's a series, they were going for a more cohesive look, you know, the same but different. And I think the final Blue Moon cover ties in nicely with the Evermore cover since they both feature a girl (Ever) and a close up of an object that is hugely symbolic to the story inside.
"When I saw the final Blue Moon cover, I loved it immediately! I feel really lucky to work with such a great team at St. Martin's!"
Thanks, Alyson! I think these covers are iconic and they just glow. I have to admit that first version of Blue Moon seems 80s to me somehow. What do you guys think? Comment below to be entered for the signed copies!
Happy Wednesday!

I absolutely love the covers! Both have a dark undertone that's just lovely and the colors are sharp. It's what initially make me want to read her books and now I can't wait to read both Evermore and Blue Moon!

I love the haunting feel to the covers!

I enjoyed this cover story! :) I agree how the second cover has a similar 'feel' to the first one. Love it! =D

I think you're right, Melissa...the covers just GLOW. They're a bit too "Twilight" for my liking, but if it wasn't for that (annoyingly) iconic book, I think I'd really love these. Oh well...they're still beautiful!

I love the color scheme.

Personally, I like the Blue Moon cover moreso than the Evermore cover (but that might just be the combination of me loving the color blue and having a fascination with the moon). But I DO like the cohesiveness of the series. When I saw the Blue Moon cover originally, my first thought was "Hey, that reminds me of Evermore."
(And please enter me in the contest, too!)

Evermore has one of the best covers I've ever seen.
Posted by Ink | July 8, 2009 12:05 PM
I really love the cover of BLUE MOON. It does seem to fit nicely with EVERMORE. I'm glad Alyson shared the cover stories for both books, since I always wonder how the covers are chosen. Thanks for sharing.

I love blue moon cover. The globe with the flowers inside and deep dark blue as background really make a deep contrast.
Posted by Van | July 8, 2009 12:39 PM
The cover for Blue Moon is excellent! These are on my list of must-reads, and of course, I'd love to have the freebies.
Posted by Jamie Lynn Braziel | July 8, 2009 12:39 PM
I really like the general look of both covers. Going with mainly black and blue is classic but not too puristic. Relating to symbols within the story by putting them in the center of the picture is a very good way to make the reader identify even with the look of the book.
I love that the only other colors apart from black and blue are used to portray these symbols.
Choosing between the two covers, I like the Blue Moon cover the most simply because the flowers in the crystal ball look so delicate and beautiful.

What a fun cover story! Looking forward to both of these stories! (have Evermore on audiobook)
Posted by I Heart Monster | July 8, 2009 12:43 PM
Wonderful! Yeah that first stab is just eh. I definitely agree the final works well with Evermore. It must have been tricky making two different models appear to be the same person!

The Blue Moon cover is absolutely beautiful. I love the flowers in the globe and I like how most of the cover is blue (my favorite color) Both of them mixed together make it seem somewhat magical.
I'd like to enter the contest thingy : )

Both covers are very perceptive to the story, like how alyson wanted. I love how the covers turned out and how they draw you into the story by the colors and the darkness of mystery. They greatly fit the story by the mystery man and the chase of the mystery, throughout the book, of her past. I can't wait to read Blue Moon to see what comes next!!

The cover of Evermore is what made me snatch the book off the shelf and read the back. I was very pleasantly surprised that the cover of Blue Moon does the very same thing! Kudos to your artist, editor, and to Alyson Noel. Thanks for the amazing book. Looking forward to the next one.

I love both covers, but I'm thrilled she stuck with the one she did. I love that Ever's holding a glimpse of Summerland. Also, has anyone else noticed that the girl they used for the cover of Evermore is also on the cover for North of Beautiful? Same pose, but her hair's parted on the opposite side.

Evermore was amazing with an amazing cover, so I can't wait to see what's in store for Blue Moon! Everytime I see somebody pick up Evermore, I can't help but be like, "That was an awesome book. You should definately read it." They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but you can with this one: amazing cover, amazing book.

I lovee the cover on both books! they are uniquely different and what not (: I have been dieing to read blue moon! and the cover is alot different from the other books i've read. I think i'd have to say the BLUE MOON book cover looks better compared to the evermore one. you are right it does kinda have an eighties feel!
Posted by Kirstie | July 8, 2009 7:17 PM
There's something about the new cover that's kind of haunting-like... in a good way, though. It's so mysterious, and I really love the fog that seems to be setting in, skirting over the top of the grass. And in the glass, too, with the flowers--the flowers really add to the air of mystery that surrounds it. I can't wait to read it!!
Posted by Teresa | July 8, 2009 7:18 PM
I'd really love to win blue moon! the covers are gorgeous! I have been waiting for blue moon to come out since , well i finished reading evermore in March...I really love the cover of Blue Moon alot more then Evermore's because its i don't know more kinda blue, nicer looking. haha. maybe I like it more cause my favorite color is blue. You're right though both of them do have a sorta glow. They also have a magic kinda thing going that i really love! the first book was amazing and i read the first chapter online of the second and am just dieing to read the rest of the book! and SIGNED! i have never had a signed by author book (: it would be incredible! ok i shouldn't make this comment too long.

The covers are very compelling...I tried to buy Evermore at Sam's club last Friday (the cover drew me in) and their system wouldn't let me...no release date violation or anything, just a computer glitch. I was able to check it out at my library and I'm glad, very much enjoying reading it...I'll be buying it and Blue Moon if I don't win them (*fingers crossed*).
Thanks for a very entertaining read, Alyson.

I think That it has a little to much going on(The 80's looking Blue Moon Cover, and there is no "color" to it. The cover in use has pazzaz to it and it draws your attention(The swirly crystal ball, same thing with the red tulip on the Evermore cover).
Posted by Iesha Serrato | July 9, 2009 1:08 PM

Love the covers, especially for Blue Moon.
Posted by Darcy | July 9, 2009 4:57 PM
I think the Evermore cover(Ever holding two tulips that mean undying love) fit the story perfectly. I agree that the second Blue Moon cover fit the book better than the first one because the second one looks more alike to Evermore's cover because of the dark backround not to mention that they both focus in on Ever. I would think that they would continue this pattern for the 3rd book Shadowland. I have to say even though I like the covers, I care more about the actual book(which was so amazing and exciting that I am counting the days until' Shadowland comes out). I'd like it if you enter me into the contest.
Posted by Sydney | July 9, 2009 4:59 PM
I love both of the covers. The pop of the red tulips on Evermore is so pretty. I think I like the Blue Moon cover the best though. I love to see what authors are thinking about the covers of there books. You know-how much say they have, what it means to them, yada, yada, yada. Love this series! Thanks!
Posted by Carrie G | July 9, 2009 7:15 PM
The books are great and I cannot wait for the next one!!!! I will not give out any info, But the second book was just as good if not better than the first. I read it in one sitting because I could not put it down. I know the rest of the series will be just as good.

The choosen covers are beautiful. But what I really love about them is that they really tell you a story, they give you a sense of the book your reading.
Posted by Alo Ortiz | July 10, 2009 3:31 PM
The book covers are very symbolic each having their own little piece of the story in the pictures. The first cover shows Ever holding a other worldly looking sphere in her hand. The crystal ball signifies Ever's psychic ability because all mystical fortunetellers must have a crystal ball and like ever have in site seeking abilities. The image within the ball shows a large meadow filled with bright and beautiful yellow tulips. This perfect image might be the wonderful Summerland where Ever now has the ability to visit at her choosing thanks to her true love Damen. Thus the sphere in hand shows how Ever has the ability to visit in the bag/or in hand. Yellow tulips according to my research mean 'hopelessly in love' which also fits with the story by portraying Ever's feelings for the charming immortal knight in shining armor know as Damen A.
In the second cover Ever stands alone like she does through the whole story of Evermore as Ever discovers who she was and is while fighting the sly evil immortal named Drina. The title blue moon itself has symbolism itself. For once in a blue moon a being might have a life changing adventure just as Ever did. Once in a Blue Moon we must discover our selves through a long journey of effort and fighting and interest just as Ever did.
I loved the coloring of both covers bringing an eye popping psychic energy and glow. I am a 15 girl who is crazy about romance and I would love to be entered to win the signed copies. :) Love yah all

I think the covers look absolutely amazing. I'm excited to be able to read Blue Moon after reading Evermore countless times and falling in love with it. The covers fall in sequence with eachother nicely giving her series a unique and distinguishable look. They are extremely visually appealing and seeing the covers would make anyone have to stop and say, "Hey, what's this book about?".
I would love signed copies of the books to put in my personal library! It would be the best!

Congrats Melissa on the wedding next week!! I still have 2 years or so left till mine (I LITERALLY just started planning, like LAST WEEK!), so I canNOT wait to feel what you're feeling right now!
As for the covers? I think they're absolutely perfect for the books. They're iconic, if you will, and very... Ever! haha I can't really think of anything else. The first cover idea for Blue Moon, I must agree with you, is very 80's, and I truly don't think represents Ever in the slightest. Alyson and her "rockin editor" made a great team when it came to not only deciding on the covers, but to put out this series, period. I have read and reread the books since I got them, and REFUSE to put them down. Next up? Starting the "Evermore" tattoo!! :-)

I love this series and I think the first new moon cover is very pretty but doesn't really connect with Evermore's cover. I love the second one though, I just bought it yesterday and can't wait to start reading.=)

When walking down the bookstores aisles, the cover of Evermore instantly drew me in. The dark colors, haunting girl, and stark contrast of the tulips had me even before reading the description. I would have bought Blue Moon anyways, but again I found a breath-taking cover. It's amazing how in one picture they set the mood. Love the books, love the covers, love Alyson Noel!

I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but when I first saw Evermore, I immediately added it to my wish list without even skimming the description. It's really interesting how different both covers looks, minus the font style. When I saw the cover for Blue Moon, I almost thought it was a completely separate book by an author I'd never heard of. I really do prefer the second cover for Blue Moon, though. It definitely catches your eye more.

I fell in LOVE with Evermore! The charactors, the plot, everything! I loved the cover of it, too-mainly for the two red tulips.
I haven't read Blue Moon yet but im dying to read it!
I'm just so glad that their is going to be six books in the series!
Also that Alyson Noel gets to write about Riley.

Wow--so cool! I think the covers are beautiful, either way! I'm dying to read these, so please enter me!!
PS. I actually really like the 1st version of Blue Moon--I wasn't alive in the 80s, so I wouldn't know!!!

Wow, a huuuge improvement from the first version, it looks a million time better. But I still prefer the first book... Evermore's cover is SOOO beautiful, Blue Moon's a little weird for me, not sure why...

The original cover would be too boring - there's so many urban fantasy covers showing a woman's back. I like the new one, though I never realized those were flowers in the sphere! (It is hard seeing it only on a computer screen.)

I found this series a couple of weeks ago, and needless to say I am completely hooked. I am a fan for life now. I cannot wait until January 5th to find out what happens next! :) And I especially can't wait to see if I win the contest for the signed copies!

these covers are beautiful, but they also MATCH. which is super important to someone like me, when reading a series. (i can't tell you how much it upsets me when a new cover comes out for say, the third book in a series, because then it goes on my bookshelf and it doesn't WORK right. i know, i'm a little neurotic, but series should look similar!!)
i love the cover of "blue moon" - more than "evermore". i don't think that's the fault of anyone - it's just that tulips are SO twilight, and i'm more than ready to move on from that series. ;) plus, the summerland globe really pops in a way that the other didn't - i noticed that it's actually a little raised form the whole cover, which makes it even more set apart.
they make me really happy.
(and i love these stories, so thanks, melissa!!)

Hmm, in comparison, I definitely like the final Blue Moon cover they used more than the WIP one. =)
I'd love to be counted in, haven't had a chance to check out Blue Moon yet. Thanks =)

I've heard a lot of good things about this book. Great covers too. I'd love to be in the running!

The cover for Blue Moon is so much more mystical than Evermore. Evermore's cover captures more of Ever's sadness.

i really love both covers. they speak to the dark parts of the story (being immortal, for instance) but the tulips and the ball of light are lovely touches that juxtapose it :)
the books are AMAZING.
