Win-It Wednesday: Losers by Matthue Roth
The winner of last week's copy of Meg Cabot's How to be Popular is... BookBegger! Send me your address, BB. And, everyone should come join the chatting with Meg on the readergirlz forum.
Now, on to this week's contest. I'm giving away a copy of Matthue Roth's Losers, which I read in an afternoon and just adored! Matthue is a really cool, energetic guy, and his hyperness comes through in the book in the best possible way as he tells the story of Jupiter, a smart/funny/off-beat foreign student who seeks popularity with a high school crowd that doesn't quite understand him. The quirky world Matthue creates is one I wanted to keep spending time in--so much fun.
To enter to win this contest, you must buy someone a book for the upcoming holiday season. Seriously, books are the best gifts--how else can you buy someone a whole world for under $10? I'm getting a book for every single person on my list this year, which will mean lots of money saved and happy friends!
Comment below about a book you're gifting this year. You can also list your purchases here and help booksellers sell a million books. That will get you an extra entry--just tell me you also commented at When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Buy Books.
I'll choose a winning commenter next Wednesday, and you can have one more book to read and wrap up this winter!
Good luck.
PS-Something else to know about today, per my friends at The N: This awesome rock you like a Unicorn pin. Unicorns are all around these days!

I'm getting a few people copies of my all-time favorite short story collection DOGWALKER by Arthur Bradford. Such a quirky collection that ANYONE is certainly likely to enjoy it!

So far I've bought my niece two sets of Elmo books. She's only 2 but she already loves books and has us read to her all the time! I'll probably get my nephew a couple little books to start off his library as well (he's 6 months! haha).

I will be getting my 14yo daughter Brisingr and Inkdeath. And probably a new bookshelf (no kidding...this girl READS!).

Oh, I'm definitely buying books! Tomorrow I'm buying the Bettle the Bard book by JK Rowling for my best friend. It's a story talked about in the Harry Potter series so now it's for every one to read. My friend is a Harry Potter nut and I can't wait to get it for her. A nephew is getting Junie B Jones and Goosebumps, another nephew is getting construction books but I haven't decided on my kids yet. Books are the best!

OH My Gosh. You're a fan of The-N? That used to be my life. I can't even remember the last time I signed in or my ID and stuff. I miss those crazy games and message boards.

I just bought 'Writing Magic' for my niece. I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow to see her.
She caught me writing and wanted to help. She came up with some really funny stuff for an eleven year-old. Then she started writing her own story. I'm also going to get her a nice journal. My parents and sister are not very creative so I foster every creative bone in her body.

My sister is getting The Hunger Games for sure. How about a nice dystopia for Christmas?
Posted by Laura | December 3, 2008 11:43 PM
I bought my sister the collectors edition of Twilight. I also bought books for the local children's home; some of the books go to individual children and some go into their library. I think one of the best ways for children without the best life circumstances to grow is to read so every year I make a point to donate books to them.

I agree with you, books are best gifts ever!!! Me and my closest friend always buy books for each other on every special occasion. We'll "exchange" some YA novels this Christmas too.
I just bought some books today: Victoria and the Rogue for my god sister Debbie, And if it were true by Marc Levy for my guy friend Nicolas and Will you be there? by Marc Levy for myself. I'm gonna save up and buy some more in the next two weeks.
Hope you'll give and receive lots of books this holiday season ^^ thanks for the great giveaway.
Oh and, I just commented at The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Buy Books too.

As a slight funny gag I'm giving my cousin a book about poop [yeah I know but there's a story to it!]. He didn't believe me that there was actually a book that made you talk about your poo and draw it, its like a poo diary.... plus he's 9, they get so fascinated with the silliest things. He thought it was hysterical, so I'm indulging him a little in his hysteria.
As a running gag I've been buying my friend Dr. Seuss books every year...its a joke from a time we had a conversation about Dr. Seuss. This year I got her my favorite one, "The Foot Book".
I also got another person Coraline, which the movie is going to come out soon-ish... she really wants to see the movie so I told her, read the book too!
And there's probably more but I'm slightly brain-dead from finals.

I'm excited to start sharing books I loved with my five year old daughter. I'm starting simple, with Little House in the Big Woods. Think I'll read this one myself, then pass it along to my nephew :)

I don't have an exact list yet, but I am getting books for at least three people this holiday. Especially for my best friend, who loves fantasy and LOTR.
