Win-It Wednesday: WAKE
Thank you guys for helping to spread the word about Violet in Private--I seriously appreciate the efforts! The winner of Twilight, chosen randomly, is... Bubbles! Send me your address, B.
This week, I'm giving away a copy of a really original, riveting debut by Lisa McMann: Wake (it's an autographed copy!). I can tell you that not only is the book really intriguing, but Lisa herself is also utterly awesome. Wake is the story of Janie, a regular girl in high school who has an unexpected little gift: She can drop into other people's dreams... Doesn't just that sentence make you wanna read it?! I know it does.
So to win the signed copy of Wake, just comment below and tell me about the weirdest (or funniest, or most memorable) dream you've ever had.
Oh, and no one ever claimed the signed copy of Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan (which is in my top 3 books I read this year--sooooooo good), so that will be a second prize for this week. I'll choose two winners--so just let me know which book you're playing for if you have a preference.
PS-Thanks for the early reviews of Violet in Private from Book Chic, The Story Siren, Book Muncher and The Ravenous Reader! If you guys have more word-spreading ideas, let me know. I'd love to write a book #4 for Violet!

The weirdest dream I had happened after I watched Mrs. Doubtfire. In the dream, I fell in love with this girl, and we were going to get married, and we *ahem* did other things, and I found out she was a man... very strange stuff that is. I woke up and laughed about it the whole day.

OK, this is creepy, but last month I had this horribly dream that my grandfather died, and I was woken up at 4AM by it and couldn't sleep after than and then found out later that morning that he was rushed to the hospital at 4AM and the next day he was gone. It was so sad and I was extra freaked out by his loss because of the dream I had which was so close to what happened.
He was almost 96 and it was natural causes and his first time ever admitted to a hospital, so it wasn't an angry loss, but after seeing him almost every week for my entire life, it's hard not having him at dinners anymore.
And you know, I drempt it and it happend. Very freaky.

Weirdest dream I've ever had would definitely be the one where Edward Cullen tried killing me. It's a long and messed up story.

The wierdest dream i've ever had was about 5 years ago. At the beginning, I think i was just walking through nothing-just black and empty. Then, out of the blue, this really colorful direction sign pops up in front of me. You know, like when you're at the mall or whatever, and there's signs everywhere with arrows pointing to the direction of the bathroom, customer service, etc? Yea, it was kinda like that. It was on a pole and like 50 arrows were on it pointing to every single direction possible and the arrows were all different colors. And so I just randomly picked a arrow and went to the direction it was pointing. And then it was like I was just transported to my elementary school soccer field and a whole bunch of kids were in it, not just from school but kids I knew from church too. And those kids were playing a whole bunch of games and it looked really fun. there was a trampoline, seesaw, jungle gym, etc...but everything was SUPERSIZED!! to like 12 times the original size!! And then I met this girl, Jenny (we used to go to church together), and we talked for awhile. And then something happened, I forgot what, but then I was in a building and on three of the four walls, there was nothing on it, it was just painted grey (or was it black? idk i forgot but i do remember it was really dark...oh yeah and there were barely any lights on) and on the fourth wall there were a whole bunch of circular holes, like tubes, and I was trying to figure out what to do next...when my mom woke me up.
ahaha I remember I was so mad at my mom when she woke me up cause I wanted to know what was going to happen next!! but i guess thats the wierd thing about dreams-you always wake up when its just getting good! And its even wierder how vividly i remember this dream, considering it was 5 or 6 years ago when i had it...

I'm not entering I just want to play along!
Wake seems really awesome and I love that it's the beginning of a series, I'm a sucker for series :D
I know I've had a lot of weird dreams but one that comes to mind is this: I'm standing at the end of my street getting ready to run a race (which I would never do, i hate running) when I look down and I have a cut on my leg and cheese is oozing out of it. Random! I think at the time I had actually injured my leg so it kinda makes sense that i would dream about that, not sure where the cheese comes into it.
I really want to have a Violet 4 too! If there is anything I can do to help promote please let me know! I've just posted my review of Violet By Design and have the count-down counter counting down. I know you were sending out promo postcards right? I bet indie bookstores would be a great match for those, I bet you've done that already though!

I still remember one of my weird and scary childhood dreams where I was chased by 2 robbers and in the dream, I lived in an apartment building. But then the building collapsed and I had to go live in an ice cave.
I really, really hope I win this book!! :P Plot's intriguing!
Thanks Melissa :)

I have had soooo many weird dreams but a recurring one which I had a child was that dinos took over our neighborhood and ate my parents and one of my brothers. They were moving on down the street when my other brother opened the front door and called to them. Then they came back for us (nice job bro!).
And yes, I'd LOVE to win Wake :)

Whoops, forgot to say which book I'm playing for. I'm for Wake, please. I already have Boy Meets Boy and absolutely loved it. Obsessed over it.

Oh wow, the most memorable dream I've had...I really can't think of one, but the ones that I do remember the most usually include my current celebrity crushes. Most recently that would be having the Jonas Brothers come to dinner at my grandparent's house, but I'm sure that one will be replaced by another one soon. ;]
Now then, Wake! I've been wanting to read this book for the longest time. I've heard nothing but good reviews and I've been dying to get my hands on this book. Thanks for this opportunity! :D

it's not a weird dream... but the most memorable for me was when I was little and had just watched "jurassic park" with my family. That night I had a nightmare that I was sitting in the back of that park jeep, and a t-rex was chasing me. Needless to say, I woke up screaming for the dinosaurs to stop. haha. Well, please enter me for the "Wake" giveaway. I love the concept of dropping in on people's dreams. =)

i had this really weird dream the other night. in it i was going through the desert and my cat jumped from behind a cactus. she looked at me and started speaking in spanish. she said "señorita gato dice meow meow." it was the first time i had ever dreamed in spanish.
Posted by katlynncore | July 23, 2008 11:44 PM
uhm... my dreams are very weird. i had one where i took a fieldtrip with school to my hometown, and ran away, but then got on the wrong bus line, even though it was definately the right one. it took us out of the town towards these wetlands that i know i've been too before but that definately aren't where i thought they were.
this didn't sound so strange until i told it to someone, though.

I once had a dream that I was holed up in an abandoned supermarket with a lot of other people, and there were zombies outside trying to get to us. We were trying to hold them off by threatening them with explosives, but they got to us anyway. I somehow managed to escape with a hot guy. I think I must now write a zombie book.
Postcards rock my world. I have a huge collection of them. And bookmarks are awesome too. If you could get a bunch of people to distribute such things (or flyers or pins) to bookstores and libraries, that could really help.
Maybe team up with some other authors who write books similiar to yours and launch a campaign on positive thinking and fun, positive books that go with it (ie, Violet is a model, but she's also a ROLE model, she's got an education, etc.).
Maybe a vlog with you reading aloud from one of the books? That'd be cool!

Oh wow, I have a lot. There was the time I was a princess in a neopet-animated world and my amazing prince disappeared so I had to go the castle and while wandering the forest, I came across my parents and found out that they had sold our dog for $13,000 to some old lady in a wheelchair. Then there's the one where a tornado picked me up and dropped me in New York. Then when I was little I used to have nightmares about getting kidnapped all the time (thanks to my mom voicing her fears that if I stepped foot out of her sight, I'd get kidnapped.) I used to write my dreams down in diaries if they were particularly interesting... I have a few of them in multiple diaries all over the house. :D
And then I had this dream about a hot sparkly dude in a field so I wrote a book about it and it became a bestseller...
Oh wait.
That's not me, that's Stephenie Meyer.
Bummer!!
Oh, by the way, I'll take the "'Wake' Giveaway," please. =D

Congrats Bubbles! =D
I was just wondering what the people who DON'T have dreams have to write about? Because I don't think I've ever had a dream in my life! =( I don't think about it too much, but when people talk to me about the cool dream they had the night before I do feel like I'm missing out on something. Lol, but when they have nightmares (especially realistic ones) I feel pretty relieved.
I already have a copy of Wake (which is great!), so I'd like to enter the Boy Meets Boy giveaway! =)
I hadn't read Boy Meets Boy until this May, when you blogged about it. I'd heard a lot of good things about it before, but I'd never gotten around to reading it. When you recommended it I finally got out from the library, and read it. And it was good. Really good. So good that I was speechless. It just felt so dreamy and sweet. =) You described it perfectly- I felt tenderized! Thanks so much for blogging about it, or I might not have ever picked up such an awesome book! =D

(Btw, those reviews of VIP were really good! Oh and I got a new layout for my blog! Yay! =D)

Incredibly wonderful — those early reviews of VIP. I love the beating drum, the sound of a fourth book somewhere in the future.

I'm playing for Boy Meets Boy; I already have Wake.
I'll go with a weird recent dream, because my dreams are fairly strange as a whole.
I was on the beach for a high school band trip. (I actually went on one of these freshman year, but the dream beach definitely wasn't Corpus. It looked more like the Pacific.) For some reason I have my nine-month-old niece with me.
And no supplies! No formula, no diapers, no baby food, no nothing. Now my niece can kind of babble, but in the dream she's begging me for food.
So I slowly feed her a Gatorade slushy. And none of my friends who are wandering around on the trip find it odd that I'm caring for a baby.
Then my dad picks me up. (Why my dad? I don't know.) That's about when the dream ended.

When I was a teenager, I had this reoccurring dream where I was in this old house and I was being chased by a man in turquoise scrubs.
As I run from him down the stairs, the stairs disappear and I am falling. I wake up covered in sweat with my heart pounding.
I would love to read Wake.

Just wanted to say thanks for mentioning my review! I sure hope there is a fourth. :)
Anyway, I already have Wake so I'll play for Boy Meets Boy.
I'm not sure what my weirdest dream was because I've had many weird ones, but the one I remember the most is one I had a year or so ago. It was me running from my dad who was trying to kill me. I was moving all the furniture in my room to block the door but he was still somehow getting through. Lol, we must have been fighting a lot at that time or something. I tease him about it now saying I had better watch out or my dream will come true. :P

Oh my gosh!!! signed copy!!!! W O W!!! i love this author!! i've talked to her a couple of times and i just think she is such an awesome inspiration. actually, she is one of the biggest inspirations for me to get back to work on my writing (i took a long long break from it). how amazing of a dream it would be to have a signed copy. goodness......i advertised for her book at my school a long long time. kids at my school could tell you how much i love the book and author....they could tell you how annoying i was too by me trying to get them to go out and buy WAKE and read it.
so anywho, a dream eh? well, just recently i had a dream about.....well i can't really tell you because it's my new book idea. lol. i can tell you that it's really good. it was so good in fact that i had to start writing a book about it. it is one of the best ideas ive ever had for a book. i love dreams because they are always filled with great ideas for book ideas. pay attention to your dreams more, they could really give you awesome new plots. most of my ideas come from my dreams. and lately, my dreams have been really interesting.
alright alright. heres a dream from a couple of years ago. i remember most of my dreams vividly because i write most of them down. here is one of my most creepiest dreams. it was a really bad nightmare.
its dark and the only light is the one that can be sighted outside the car on the side of a pale, small building. i can barely see the faces of my family members in the miniscule car that we rented. emerging from the darkness a group of dismangled men spill over to our car. my heart begins to race and i immediately blurt out to my father, "dad, just drive. don't talk! get us out of here." the men slouch over the car and signal him to pull down the window. with a firm voice i whisper for my dad to not say anything stupid like he usually does. i look at the men who begin to spread themselves around the car. we are completely surrounded and i look at the dark figure sitting next to me. he gives me that brotherly its-okay-don't-worry-about-it-we-will-get-out-soon smile. i hear my dad start smart mouthing to the men and my mother continues to beg my dad to stop talking. the feeling in the room rises to an intensity of extreme fear and discomfort. the talking between the men and my parents accelerates to yelling. the second i turn to my brother, seeking comfort within this highly stressful situation, all sound turned deaf. the only thing i could hear was a loud noise and slow talking like someone pushed fast-forward and pause at the same time. i felt a warm substance drip from the head rest in front of me. i heard a scream muffled, and slow that appeared to be extracting from my mother. then the man outside the driver window screaming at my mother trying to get her to stop freaking out. i could hear severe sniffling from my brother next to me and all i could do was sit there in confusion. my eyesight begins to fade and all i could see was blurry images. i then hear another muffled loud noise and a cry from the sniffling figure next to me. my brother and i sit there afraid to make noise, afraid to be of a bother to the men. i see the blurry men split from the scene leaving me and my now spinning, blurry, and part-deafening self with my half histerical brother in the dark rented car.
yeah, intense....i know. trust me....imagine seeing this.....this was the worst nightmare ever!

In my weirdest dream, I was floating in the air and couldn't get down to the ground. It was a bit unsettling.

I am dying to read Boy Meets Boy! Anywho, I had my all time strangest dream this week, as a teacher with the school year quickly approaching I had a very realistic dream that I did not show up for the first day of class so my boss sent all the students to my small one bedroom condo. I opened the door in my PJs to find them waiting outside. It scared me half to death!

Great contest!! Two great books.
I have some really weird dreams. One that comes to mind is about a puppy. My husband and I are adopting a puppy for our daughter's birthday. We're in the process and we originally picked out an adorable little boy. A few weeks ago, I had a horrible dream that the puppy was hit by a car. Later that day, I received an email that the puppy actually passed away the day before from a vaccination complication. Weird..
On a brighter note, we're adopting his sister. So sorry for the sad news, but this was my latest really creepy dream.
Nice reviews! :) Congrats.

wow i've had lots of weird dreams lost count but there was this particular dream i had recently where i was skate boarding(i don't skateboard and this skate board was small, odd, and made completely of medal) on top of an airplane, which was way up in the sky. i skateboarded to the other side of the airplane where the jonas brothers where at (i'm not a fan of then i don't like them i don't hate them, my two little cousins are HUGE fans though). it was soo funny and odd because there is no way something like that could ever happen. great giveaway btw : )

Woah. I have so many weird dreams you'd swear I'm on something. It's probably all the caffiene/sugar. I couldn't even begin to tell you the weirdest. Goodness...
Posted by Kelly | July 25, 2008 11:01 PM
I forgot to say which I wanted... but I'm fine with either, or both, if the RNG is fond of me on Wednesday...
You said that Boy Meets Boy is in your top 3 books this year, so what are the other 2?
Posted by Ink | July 27, 2008 1:20 AM
The weirdest dream I had was a bunch of my classmates leading an army of undead all chanting "Hello Kitty" and circling in on me. Or the one when I was in an episode of 24 and another classmate of mine was the terrorist and was angry at the world for shunning him. And blew up a CTU car and nearly killed an agent...

The wierdest dream that I ever had was when I was really young. Proabably around 5 or 6. I will never forget this dream. In the dream it was my birthday and these two twin dolls I had came alive and tried to hurt me. It was so scary. Then my doorbell rang and I opened it and the Ninja Turtles came there to save me. Of course they won and saved me from my scary twin dolls! Ever since then I have kept those dolls locked up in a box. 11 years later, I'm still scared of them!

the weirdest dream i had...there's too many of those.
i dreamt that i was back at my old school, except it had about 6 floors and escalators. and i kept running into this kid in a wheelchair and unintentionally hitting him with random objects like starburst wrappers.
so my friends kept yelling at me and i started smacking one of them in the middle of the hallway, and teachers are walking by ignoring the entire huge scene we're making.
i don't know. i can't remember it that well, but it was so weird. oh, and one of my friends was there the entire time but he never talked. he was like decoration or something.
i'm fine with whichever book though.
Posted by Caty Morse | July 29, 2008 1:24 PM
gah. i dont remember whole details of weird dreams, but i remember once some amish people stole my cell phone and wouldnt give it back..
also, i used to have reoccurring dreams about tornadoes. they would come like once a month and i would always be with people from school, but we werent actually in school.

Ooh....dreams. My favorite subject. =)
This is going to sound really weird (or "interesting"), but well, how many dreams aren't these days? Just warning you about the utter craziness of the dream I'm about to tell. xD
About a week ago I had the type of dream that you remember vividly when you wake up. And it was also one of those dreams that seemed to be filled with a halo of white light, like an over-exposed photograph.
In it my two pen-pals and I were walking around in Orlando, Florida (don't ask the why, cause I really don't know, lol) and we were visiting an apple grove that was literally right on the edge of the beach. There were tons and tons of gorgeous round apples that looked almost too pretty, like it was fake. But, since we were curious we went up to the apple trees and started picking apples. However, after that I kinda lost a little of the dream, and the next thing we were doing was running through swamps and bushes and stuff, being chases by alligators and crocodiles. =D Haha. I don't know why they were chasing us....maybe because we stole their apples? I dunno.
Anyways, after running through like 20 swamps (and still not even tired, I love that about dreams) we got in my friend's car, which was magically waiting for us, and drove back to her house in New Jersey to shower (weird, huh?). When we got there, it turned out that none of our clothing, which were white summer dresses, was dirty so we just drove back to Florida and ate our apples on the beach (don't ask me where the alligators went, lol) with ice cream.
I really have no idea the signifigance of that dream but it was something I do remember very well. xD Hope it was an entertaining read. Haha. I only get a few crazy dreams but once I do get them, they're REALLY crazy.
