Marketing Monday: Comfy Chairs and Buzz
First, I just had to fulfill a promise to commenters on The Book Lady's fun interview with me. Behold, a photo of the pink flowered chair in which I write daily (and which I'm sinking into right now). I don't know why I look so sly in that photo, but I really love it, ottoman and all!
Second, I've mentioned how writing articles for various venues can help get your name in front of potential readers, and you can go further by writing articles that help other authors (and you!) in their marketing endeavors.
Today, one such article I wrote was posted on mediabistro.com. It's called Building Buzz For Your Book, and I got to interview some very creative author and publishing types who shared great ideas. Thank you all!
PS-UPDATED: Buzz begets buzz, which is another thing to remember. Thanks, Galleycat! (And sorry to everyone who can't read the story on mediabistro.com because they're not members... I didn't realize that part earlier!).

Thanks so much for posting a photo of the chair! It is nothing like what I was expecting in my mind; it is a million times better (which was part of the reason why I wanted to see it!) I think it is interesting that you write in a chair.
Thanks again.
P.S. I want one!

Ooh, that one does look comfy. And, of course, the natural light and the greenery must help, too. Thanks for posting the photo!

WHAT IS WITH YOU WRITER/BOOKBUYER WOMEN AND FRICKIN' BARE FEET!?!
Do you spend all your money on ink cartridges and books so that you can no longer aford to shod yourselves?
No no, wait, you spend every spare penny you have on shoes and then YOU DON'T EVER WEAR THEM! NOT EVEN IN PICTURES! Especially not if you are the model featured on the cover of a YA book or chicklit.
Baffled. Color me Y-chromosome impaired, because I just don't get it.
One percent of the population has "anonymous" feet. The other ninety nine percent of males and females have ugly, broke-ass feet. It would be like if every book targeted toward males had a big, honkin' hairy beer belly on it. And the author photos on the back flap had their shirts pulled out of their pants so everyone could see their big fat beer bellies.
"Look a' that!" smiles the male author, pointing toward his hairy pooch with a belly button as deep and dark as an oil well. "Ain' she a beaut! Yep, yep, yep!"
When I take over the world I'm taking a Taliban-like approach to the display of bare feet in public. Don't even get me started on Flip-flops.
Ooops. The men in the white coats are here to make me take my meds and strap me back down to the bed. Gotta go.

For the record, Melissa, you have very pretty feet. And it's not like they're that visible anyway. And I love my flipflops, so I'm all for allowing bare feet to be on display.
